Memorandum

TO: Planning and Zoning Commission

FROM: Michael Raber, Senior Planner Deparment of Community Development

MEETING DATE:	April 19, 2011

SUBJECT:	Agenda item #5 - Discussion regarding the Sedona Community Plan update process and the status of the Citizens Steering Committee

This agenda item will provide for a staff overview and Commission discussion on the status of the Community Plan update and Citizens Steering Committee.

In the Commission’s March 15, 2011 meeting, we discussed the Council’s March 8 approval and direction regarding the scope for the Citizen’s Steering Committee, Public Participation Procedures for the Community Plan update and the general Plan update process.

Since the Commission’s March 15 meeting, the Steering Committee has conducted two meetings primarily to start planning the first major community event to be conducted on May 19, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Creative Life Center, with an identical program at the same place on May 21 at 10:00 a.m. This event is intended to be both informational and inspirational, with a focus on why the Plan is important, what it has accomplished, why community participation is important and where a plan can take us in the future. Staff will discuss the status of this effort with the Commission and potential next steps in the process.
