ARTS AND CULTURE CANDIDATES FORUM this Monday!

Invitation to the public from Mei Wei Wong, Executive Director Sedona Arts Center via Facebook:

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 6:30 PM, Sedona Arts Center Art Barn

Soon, we will elect new councilors. The candidates for a new council will direct the future relationship between the city government and its "City Animated by the Arts". The moderated Q&A will discuss their commitment to the Arts and the Culture of Sedona. We do care about their intentions and understanding is of our culture and also, the economics of the arts.

Last year the entire foundation of Sedona's arts funding was altered. The Arts and Culture Commission was removed from it's historic role. Funding resources, and the underlying philosophy of commitment to the arts was dramatically changed. The council has voted. The limited funds are divided among a much larger group of applicants with no particular commitment as to focus on the arts. It has already been costly to some arts organizations and caused many changes in the Arts and Culture Commission's membership, orientation and function. Surprisingly, this was not much noticed in the community!

That was then, this is now.

This is your chance to express your own point of view regarding the intersection of Art, Politics, Taxes and our Sedona culture. It's time to reanimate our City Animated by the Arts.

Please, join us. And please pass this along!

Sarah McLean via Facebook: Are you registered to vote? Today is the last day to register to vote in the Arizona primary next month. Whether you are voting for someone or against others, make sure to have your vote registered - and, unlike the general election in November, in the appropriate party. It only takes a couple of minutes online. You can still switch parties now for the primary election, but you MUST do it today. [For example, if you want to participate in influencing who the Republican candidate will be, you must be registered as a Republican for the February primary election.] Register online here:
