I would like you to include ways our community can help each other. Please set up a link on this site, many of us are stuck at home, bored and need to feel like we are doing something proactive. Are our kids being fed, do we need more fostering of pets in shelters. A place where people can list their needs to the community would be very helpful, imo.

  2. Mike Campbell says:

With all the reduced services, I trust staff will be required to use their vacation and leave?

Oh wait, it’s Sedona, the “hard working” city employees will get a hazard bonus for not working.

  3. Thelma, VOC says:

use the NextDoor app because it’s your neck of the woods community specific
it’s free and it keeps you in the your neighborhood and it shows your name
    good luck

  4. Julie says:

Our Sedona Humane Society has its own website and we wouldn’t want or need a city link because city site isn’t needed except for city government information. Do your own searches for fostering animals at https://humanesocietyofsedona.org/ . There are other shelters in Coconino and Yavapai. Using the internet to find information is quick and easy.

  5. Nothing changed says:

Half the Sedona City staff are usually out of the office,on vacation, at a training seminar or in a meeting. You can walk through the offices and wonder why there are so many empty desks on a normal day.

    Working remotely, what a joke.

Shut the city down, the 50 million budget will go back in your and tourist pockets. Yes, we should care about how tourists are treated.

  6. The scam ends says:

    Cornonagate.

A bunch of people with pre-existing conditions like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and already on many medications die. I have a urgent news flash, if you are old, or perhaps even not so old, you will eventually die !! If you are massively overweight and eat junk, you will die sooner !!

This was scam to enact more control. It failed. Yes they were able to shut down things for a while. It also shut down the Tourist Trap scam in Sedona. It woke a lot of people up about how the system really works.

    Karma wins !!

    Enjoy the day !!

  9. Barbara says:

When will the city council reduce our sales tax to zereo? We need it cut to zero now and not later. Ten percent of our money goes to the city when every Sedona resident needs help now. The city doesn’t have a right to 10% now.

    I want to know when?

  10. steve Segner says:

√ When will the city council reduce our sales tax to zero?
We need it cut to zero now and not later.
Ten percent of our money goes to the city when every Sedona resident needs help now. The city doesn’t have a right to 10% now.
Living in society has a price it is called taxes. 80% of taxed last year came not from residents but visitors, you do not pay sales tax on food and 1/2 the sales tax goes to the state.. if the visitors do not come back the city may look to tax you more not less, the county get property tax the city get the bed tax and 1/2 sales tax. I hope that helps

  11. Roy W. says:

After two or three attempts, voters finally approved incorporation (bad mistake) but it was with the contingency of NO CITY PROPERTY TAXES!!

At least one thing was a plus for Sedona property owners. Other than than we’ve been kicked to the curb.

Many Sedona residents already shop outside outside city limits for commodities subject to high local city taxes. It isn’t that far to the VOC, Cottonwood, Jerome and even Camp Verde. One thing the Chamber of Commerce cannot force us to do:

BUY LOCAL! Like – Oh Really! R U Nuts??

Yes, it’s going to be interesting to find out how lost revenue will be recovered when bed and sales tax drops. Who will finance the outlandish style of living to which those at City Hall have been accustomed? It ain’t gonna be the Flatlanders would be my bet.

    Karma Lives!

  12. @nothing changed says:

How do you know all of those facts about the city workers?

  13. @nothing changed says:

It’s pretty easy to figure out.

    8 Monday paid holidays
2 weeks paid vacation the first year of employment
2 weeks paid leave the first year of employment
They work 4 day weeks, but you have training and conferences, just ask them.

You have almost half the staff gone at any time. Walk into the offices sometime.

  14. @nothing changed says:

Interesting, how are those figures any different than other businesses that work a 4 day work week? IMO you sound more like a jealous person.

  15. Just a waste of money says:

When the Assistant City manager can take over the duties of the City Development Director, one or both of them were not working.

When the current city manager says in a speech some cities do without a city manager or assistant city manager, there is excessive staff.

When your baseline number of work days is about half the year, and they need to have training, meetings and conferences, it’s just a big money spending scam.

When the counties can do the same functions without any need of a local city whose sole purpose seems to support a local chamber of commerce and buy votes.

When all these things are true, it’s not jealousy, its anger at waste.

  16. Virtual uselessness says:

The main non essential service in Sedona is the City of Sedona.

  17. Mike H says:

When Sedona reports on the decrease in tax collected, just translate it to a decrease in how much was stolen from you and tourists.

  18. MaryC says:

These people replying for the city are shocking. It would be like you admired someones fur coat, they said it was stolen. You were shocked and angry. They said you sound more like a jealous person.

  19. Sedona Don says:

stop trying to change the subject, it’s time to roll the tax back if it was to rape the tourists and now it’s raping the residents, reduce the sales tax, it needs to go back to 1/2 % above state / county tax before these last spendthrifts came to power and pretended to be special but can see the Forrest Gump special they are

  20. .Nope it’s jealousy says:

Nope it’s jealousy. Sure is been hearing the same people complain about the city COC and city workersPerhaps it’s time to people that post here all the time add nausea him perhaps they should get a job it could be so jealous and envious of those who actually do something. I’ll leave the space below for you to write your nonsense replies calling me a city employee or whatever that’s the only way you can justify your bellyaching crybaby..

  21. Not jealousy honey says:

I don’t have to work, and I have everything I want. Some people will do anything to keep their ill gotten gains. I was taught by my mother to stand up to bullies and call a spade a spade.

  22. @.Nope it’s jealousy says:

    You people wish!

Dream on……. Nobody is jealous of you. They wouldn’t sell their souls for $$$
    You people keep on taking

  23. steve Segner says:

Not jealousy honey says I don’t have to work, and I have everything I want.

So to hell with everyone else, people that actually work and need to work and do not live off ill-gotten gains like you.
ok, you say my mother to stand up to bullies and call a spade a spade please tell us all just why you have the high ground by sitting on you ass all day and don’t work. ? Just tell us your past life before you gave up, you were special what job did you do or did you divorce well?

  24. @Just A Waste of Money says:

You can change your name but your jealousy comes out with every word, keep your opinions in Cornville.

  25. Mary C says:

You’ll notice these people defend the chamber and the city never respond to facts, they just try to attack the messenger. A sign their actions are indefensible.

  26. Frank P says:

I relinquish any claim on the lives of the young. As an oldster who is presumed to be peculiarly susceptible to the ravages of COVID-19, I will not ask anyone to sacrifice days, weeks or months of their time, love, life, and livelihood on my behalf. It is grotesque for the old to ask the young to sacrifice for them. Go. Live your lives. Enjoy the beautiful spring weather. I have no claim on you for my welfare.

Free men accept that life entails risk.
They don’t ask their “leaders” to “protect” them.
When “leaders” tyrannize them “for your own good,” they rise up.
Such “leaders” become lamppost decorations, pour encourager les autres.

  27. Tell us Sedona City Council says:

How come city workers aren’t being furloughed along with the supposedly 10,000 workers in the tourist industry in Sedona?

Why are they not being forced to take their vacation and leave?

  28. Don says:

When you can’t get the dogs in Sedona to admit they have a better dog park under a Trump admin than Obama or Bush or Clinton combined … they’ll keep lifting their legs in the same familiar park over and over and over … because they are dogs.

  30. Andrea Kadar - Honor Law Enforcement Fundraiser says:

Friends: During this difficult time, crime did not cease. In fact, domestic violence, rage and drug use have been increasing in our community. Our brave local police officers and sheriff’s deputies have been walking into dangerous situations to keep the rest of us safe; let’s thank them for their bravery during this crisis. Come out and help us do just that; we appreciate your participation:

McDonald’s franchisees in Sedona, Camp Verde and Cottonwood have offered a limited-menu “thank you” breakfast (or lunch) to our law enforcement officers at no cost. We are partnering with McDonalds in all three Verde Valley McDonalds locations to raise enough money between now and Monday afternoon, May 4, to match McDonald’s kind “thank you” meals and treat our officers to a second breakfast (or lunch) specifically on “Two-Fer Tuesday”, May 5th.

The officers can keep the second meal (our treat) for dinner -or- use the second meal to treat a stressed spouse, please a restless child, or encourage an unemployed friend who needs some comfort.

We will be collecting cash donations at these locations starting tomorrow:

Friday, May 1, from 8 AM to 5:30 PM at Cleaner Quicker Car Wash, 1515 West State Road 89 A, Sedona -and- 10 AM to 4 PM, Camp Verde Marshal’s office, 646 South 1st Street, Camp Verde.

Saturday, May 2: from 8 AM to 5:30 PM at Cleaner, Quicker Car Wash, 1515 West State Road 89 A, Sedona -and- 10 AM to 4 PM, Cottonwood Police Station, 199 South 6th Street, Cottonwood

Monday, May 4th: from 8 AM to 5:30 PM, Cleaner, Quicker Car Wash, 1515 West State Road 89 A, Sedona

Since Camp Verde and Cottonwood locations are a farther drive, come to either of those locations and get treats! See pictures (cool bumper stickers for your car or your home window -or- a Trump “acquitted” pen). More treats are being considered. All treats will be offered while supplies last.

Come out and join the fun and BE the miracle! Please feel free to share and post. See you Friday, Saturday and Monday to honor law enforcement.

  32. Sedona Virtual Services Extended until May 18 says:

The city will remain on virtual city hall services until May 18, 2020.

Here is the press release on Governor Ducey’s extension of stay-at-home orders. Additionally in the order he said businesses that sell retail goods (that are non essential) may begin a phased reopening beginning May 4th.

The Executive Order said the intent of the order was to: “ensure that people maintain physical distance to the maximum extent feasible, while enabling essential services to continue, reinvigorating our economy, protecting people’s rights and slowing the spread of COVID-19 to the greatest extent possible. When people need to leave their places of residence, whether to perform essential activities, or to otherwise facilitate authorized activities necessary for continuity of social and commercial life, they should at all times and as much as reasonably possible comply with physical distancing recommendations.”

Because of this order, City Hall will continue to remain closed to in-person business and services until May 18th.
