What Mr. Copen has said is true and important. However, a much larger problem lies beneath our current financial crisis, that being the rate of growth of our national debt. If we do not effectively address this debt crisis soon, it will undermine any attempt to get our economy back on track. (In fact, this is already taking place.) Looking back over the last 100 years of our nation's history, our debt stayed relatively the same when compared as a percentage to our GDP. Only during the past 10 to 15 years has the curve gone exponential. Our nation has never before experienced this kind of problem. Unfortunately few if any of our elected officials understand this, let alone have the ability to find a solution. It is clear to me that only when things get much much worse will the people of this country stop voting for either Republicans or Democrats and start voting for candidates that have the insight and ability to help solve our nations problems. These candidates do exist and they await for the voters to pay attention to what it is they have to say.

What is said in this article has been said many times before. Most people believe that we have lost our way because we have outsourced our manufacturing base. Thankfully most of the Republicans who were against the auto industry bailout failed. That would have really crushed our manufacturing base even more and sent hundreds of thousands of workers packing.

I don't know who "Dave" is in Denver Bill's comment but I am inclined to agree with at least some of what they said. Mr. Copen is right with the economy's problems. We need manufacturing and agriculture jobs. We need to send undocumented workers back first because we don't need them and second because we have 9-50% of Americans that can't find jobs.

And it's garbage about Americans not taking low level jobs. It is just that, garbage. People that want to eat and have a roof over their heads, work. Create jobs, Americans work harder and longer hours than most other nations on this earth. Our unions fought hard to provide a fair return for laboring in this country. And this media garbage about Americans not being good workers is BS to support a pro-immigration policy that enhances banks, the rich, politicans, corporations, big box shopping center businesses & land developers, drug cartels and many others that want lower classes to be its beasts of burden and mindless oxen. Democrats are anti union and pro banks and big corporations. Republicans are the same. It's time to clean up the bed bugs to the middle class and lower class that built this nation. Everybody must vote and stop giving power away. Thank you for a good article. Jack Thorkelson, Sedona visitor (Santa Clara area)

Heard on the Dave show out of Phoenix tonight that the economy must be okay for all the 99%ers because it was the 99%ers that shopped til they dropped during Black Friday - no way was it the 1% standing in line at WalMart and Target and Best Buy and the shopping malls scarfing up stuff...and the sales numbers are saying that the 99% set records spending money on Black Friday sales. Doesn't sound to us like the 99%ers are worried about electricity, food, savings for the future, gas prices or the long term either!

Maybe Dave's on to something? He said all this scare tactic about the gloom and doom economy is so the Democrats and Republicans can convince us they are the only ones who can fix us out of this mess...that we NEED them. What do you say about it?
