YCSO Seeking information regarding Black Canyon City Fire – aka “Joe’s Hill Fire.”

Yavapai Silent Witness, 1-800-932-3232, is offering a $500 cash reward for any information leading to the arrest of a suspect or suspects involved in the fire at the “C and S” salvage yard in Black Canyon City.

The fire was initially discovered late afternoon on Saturday, May 27, 2017.

Known as the Joe’s Hill Fire, it has been classified as suspicious and currently under investigation. The fire resulted in several evacuations after it intensified around 11 PM that night.

Detectives noticed a quad rider nearby as flames became visible. Detectives also learned there were other quad riders in the area at the time photos were taken on May 27, 2017, just after 5 PM.

Detectives would like to speak with any of these quad riders who were in the vicinity of the salvage yard at that time. Visit www.YCSOAZ.GOV for photos.

In addition to the riders, anyone with information is urged to call Silent Witness or Detective Chad Shilling at 928-554-8575. Refer to case number 17-018704.

Last evening The American Red Cross of Northern Arizona officially closed the Shelter located at the Canon School in Black Canyon City.

The Shelter was opened overnight to assist those affected by the Joe Hill Fire evacuations. Roughly 20 people utilized the Shelter services as a place to avoid the mid-day heat, hydrate and grab something to eat.

Two people who lost their home in the fire were served by the Red Cross and a case has been opened for follow-up recovery services.

Additionally, one person who was evacuated from the fire last night was in a local hotel due to health concerns. Red Cross volunteers visited that person in the hotel and also opened a case to provide follow-on services.

The Red Cross wishes to thank the many individuals and organizations that mobilized in support of pets affected by the fire.

Enthusiastic community based partners established a pet shelter and received and cared for numerous dogs, chickens and a rabbit throughout the day.

The Red Cross will continue to work closely with Yavapai County Emergency Managers to assist anyone in the area with recovery efforts.
