It's pleasing to have just learned the Sedona Regional Chamber of Commerce has canceled this program for 2019. Whatever the reasons are for this turn of events this is to express gratitude on behalf of local wildlife.

Think that's nuts? Maybe. But then much to my surprise a former City of Sedona employee had occasion to relate an experience which had vacated my mind.

One day two gentlemen in a city vehicle (knew neither of them) were looking for an address and passing my home, paused and with a sort of "ahem - lady - are you aware you have a bunch of wild pigs (javelinas) following you up your driveway?

It was easy to assure them it was very safe and OK as all of them were named "Chico" and based on cooing "Ok Chicos - it's Ok" they trotted along with me up the driveway assuring the gentlemen they were definitely my friends. Wish I could say the same about some two-footed critters.

It wasn't until shortly before Mr. Nick Gioello left his job with the city and moved away from Sedona when I had the opportunity to meet him and learn he was one of the two men in the car that day!

Because of new construction, more traffic, and other changes the javelina corridor has been altered and so my old friends, probably most of them no longer living, aren't around to follow me to the mailbox every day.

However, my feelings are genuine and it's with gratitude this news of blasting artificial lights into our wilderness has been at least for the time being set aside. (hopefully forever) All the money in the world cannot possibly justify terrifying wildlife and believe me - it does! Ever remember seeing a deer facing headlights?

Glory Be & Hallelujah - Chico, Chica, Bambi & Thumper - you've been handed a reprieve.

PS to the critics: Yes - I am aware this comment is under an article dated October 20, 2018 . . . . but if the shoe fits . . . .

Why would the city enter into a contract for the total amount of 3.5% bed tax when the discretionary tax increase of .5% is what the contract was based on? The deal as presented was to have been ONLY that half percent increased approved by the Lodging Council as in accordance with the state law a percentage of that specific amount was to have been considered for the advertising benefit simply because it applied only to the lodging bed tax. Maybe do ya think that might be one reason the AG's office is investigating Sedona? Based on the ridiculous misrepresentation of 3.5% rebate going to the C of C instead of a mere half percent representing the agreed upon bed tax increase. This becomes more interesting from moment to moment.

To A Reminder, you make all that sound like a bad thing. I happen to agree with what KSB does. I'm sure you don't but can you tell me what YOU have done to keep our city beautiful?

The only thing that Rob Adams did that I didn't like was running out of a council meeting otherwise Adams did what he did. What have you done??? I'm guessing not much.

A Reminder is confused. The City Council did not approve 55% of the return of the half percent bed tax increase to go to the regional Chamber of Commerce.

Remember when the City Council approved 55% of the return of the half percent bed tax increase to go to the chamber of commerce allegedly for destination marketing? At a city council meeting then Mayor Rob Adams, grinning from ear to ear, asked Jennifer Wesselhoff, Chamber CEO, what she would do with all that money, potentially millions of $$$ yet to be justified funding, once she had it?

And then most recently Keep Sedona Beautiful of all the unlikely Sedona organizations agreed to support the Chamber of Commerce and their asinine laser fright-lights during the holiday season?

Well guess what? Former Mayor Rob Adams is presently on the KSB Board of Directors. He loved that Chamber when he was the Mayor and he still loves that Chamber as a KSB Board member! Not everything in Sedona is changing. Some things unfortunately remain the same - and NOT for the good. Nuff said?

Howyadoi @Midwest Phoenix Snow Birds ! The Schifflins here ! Sharing your sentiments precisely. Overrated second class Disney Land and not worth the price of gasoline getting there. Best part of experience was the rural scenic drive on SR179 from what we believe was the Oakcreek Village to the Sedona highway by Bell Rock. We are now back to Cave Creek after our Sedona visit. Come on down! The weather's great !

We are staying at a resort on SR179. At the risk of being blasted by those who disagree with us, the reflection of the sunset on what we were told is "the rim" Munds Mountain(?) was magnificent. It was to the east as we looked at the natural spot light of the sun going down that didn't last long - beginning shortly after 5:00 PM.

The performance we took in not long after (7:00 PM) of the publicized Northern Light Show in the town area paled in comparison. In our opinions those who attempt to compete with Mother Nature are fools. And anyone paying money to do so is even more foolish (except those who are profiting financially).

We're pleased to have visited Sedona but will not be back. Your lack of acknowledging the reason people really visit here is sorely lacking. We really are legitimate Phoenix Snow Birds who will not recommend a visit to Sedona to our friends.

CORRECTION: Pursuant to Ordinance NO. 2013-07, on October 11, 2013, the City Council elected to increase the bed tax rate from 3% to 3.5% and adopted a policy that a minimum 55% of all revenue generated from the new bed tax rate be allocated to a destination marketing organization after July 2, 2014.
Wonder how the money the Chamber of Commerce gives to the USFS @N. Malmberg might factor into laws of governmental power (State & Federal). After all it's through the generosity of the City of Sedona and their elaborate give-away to the Chamber of Commerce the Chamber then uses some of those funds to give back to the USFS for their trail maintenance fund.

All in the family? One BIG happy family? All except the residents of Sedona who were foolish to put this idiotic routine in motion by voting to approve incorporation in the first place.

Their current campaign, Sedona in Motion (SIM), pales in comparison to the spider webs being spun on probably a daily basis with City, Chamber, and Lodging and maybe even the Forest Service.

Fly away little birds, far, far away if you know what's in YOUR best interest. My opinion, of course, - at least until hopefully KSB and the USFS finally see the light. That's where it's really need - desperately. City Council & Staff = HOPELESS!
