Regarding the decision of the just-departed Sedona City Council, predicated upon the advice of our then and current City Attorney Mike Goimaric, NOT to take legal action against APS and/or the AZCC relative to smart meter installation and opt-out fees, I submit the following [a story about how a small Texas town fought the establishment to fight fracking in the way that Sedona should have fought the establishment to prevent smart meter installation/fees]:

It would appear this excerpt from a Texas newspaper story will make crystal clear the difference between a City Council, Mayor and City Attorney of courage and conviction, such as is found in Denton, Texas, and the outright cowards of Sedona governance who just left office as well as our do-nothing City Attorney.

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, has come full circle in Denton, Texas after a controversial ban on the practice entered into effect on Tuesday. Denton is one of several cities located on top of the massive Barnett shale formation, regarded as the birthplace of modern fracking. The Denton city ban, while incomplete, gives strength to what is a growing anti-fracking movement in the United States. The little town of Denton has shown the fortitude to take on the most powerful industry in America, namely, the Texas-based oil industry, the Texas Oil and Gas Association and the Texas General Land Office.

Denton’s ban prohibits drilling within the city limits – about 270 wells – and joins other local referendums passed in California, Colorado, Ohio, and New York. The Texas Oil and Gas Association and the state’s General Land Office both filed lawsuits against the ban, but the City of Denton is prepared to defend its position.
