Since we moved here and invested REFUND us City of $EDONA! You didn’t properly disclose that Sedona is not a democracy. The city has manipulated the system by allowing non-residents – special interests to run the city while imprisoning the legitimate residents & businesses. IMO

We’d never would have invested or moved here if we knew this and that the chamber ran the city. $edona is enriching a private membership clubs hurting their own. IMO

Nice concept that Sedona has seceded from the U.S. – however, wouldn’t it be more appropriate for it to become “The Country (or Nation) of the Regional Chamber of Commerce?” The only problem with that though is because of the number of their members outside their “realm” – meaning even outside the state of Arizona. Sooo . . . how do these brilliant people handle that? Remember back when the council in 2013 asked Jennifer W. how many of the chamber members with zip codes 86336 were located outside Sedona City Limits and her response was it was too difficult to figure out! And now this group is headed to become a country unto itself? Watch out United Nations!

Since this incorporated City of Sedona long ago overstepped its boundaries (city limits) which as defined in State Statutes an incorporated area is supposed to abide by representing and regulating those residents and businesses within the confines of a designated area, it now appears Sedona, not a democracy as explained by Steve Segner, has perhaps seceded from the United States of America. With the apparent violation of taxation without representation that surely seems feasible. Just where and when did enacting such drastic measures occur? As Mr. Segner explained, we no longer abide by the apparently outdated majority rules policy. So was this decision also decided without transparency – in secret meetings behind closed doors? Yes, I know – dumb question.

Sedona, Arizona – a country unto itself. However, shouldn’t the name be appropriately changed to “The Official City of the Regional Chamber of Commerce” and thus remove any reference to the disgraceful turn of events that has so completely dishonored the name of Sedona Schnebly, for whom it was originally named?

@Eddie You are so right. This is the first time I have ever agreed with Segner. Sedona is not a democracy. As Stevie has statedin the past .There is the SedonaElite and the rest of the workinf class-slaves-flatlanders pay while the outside city residents play. So why is it when the deal was made with the Sedona Lodging Council to increase the bed tax .5% it included a contract whereby the Chamber of Commerce was to receive a percentage of the alleged proceeds to be returned for the purpose of destination marketing? And yet the city council will soon take liberty to increase City of Sedona sales tax without benefit of public opinion?

Further, because since the incorporation of Sedona it has been a portion of the city sales tax supporting the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center, that is occurring with the understanding legitimate tax collecting businesses within the City of Sedona that are NOT members of the “regional” Chamber of Commerce (recipients of now almost $3 million Sedona tax dollars annually) are DENIED promotional advantages within that city sponsored facility, still flying under the flag of and clearly identified as the “Official Sedona Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center.” (“Tourism Bureau” was recently incorporated into and tacked onto the scenario)

Is this one example of the policy set forth by a comment on SedonaEye from Steve Segner, that Sedona government is not a democracy? What happened with the concept of “Taxation Without Representation” as defined as follows:

WHAT DOES ‘TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION’ MEAN?

“Taxation without representation is a situation in which a government imposes taxes on a particular group of its citizens, despite the citizens not consenting or having an actual representative deliver their views when the taxation decision was made. This situation was one of the triggering events that spurred the original 13 American colonies to revolt against the British Empire.”

Celebration of Independence Day – maybe the most profound comment on this thread – and it came from Steve Segner.

“You guys are so funny, Sedona is not a democracy, and city government is not the tool of the majority.” (Obviously, based on the disregard of the poll taken back in March of 2006.)

Who will be our own Abraham Lincoln and serve to emancipate resident slaves – give us back our freedom and listen to and abide by the voices of the majority?
