Dear Tom, Mike and Greg Penrod, (ADOT)

I've heard various stories about the piping / tubing that is along Highway 89A and passes in front of the Sedona Pines Resort.

The pipe / tube appears to have always been empty and is approximately 3" in diameter.

Since we live in a tourist area, what is the purpose of this system that runs for 3-4 miles?

An ADOT person told me it was a piping system that had been planned to be used for irrigation but the plan fell apart?! So?

Can it be removed? If so, who could remove it? ADOT or possibly recycling company for ???...??? free.

Without regular efforts to create awareness, education and participation regarding highway litter, the highways of America and Arizona plus the expression “America & Arizona the Beautiful” will be meaningless and we will continue to look like many third world countries.

Residents and visitors see the trash along our state highways. The Arizona taxpayer funded ADOT Adopt-A-Highway signs incorrectly suggest we’re in good hands! In 2012, the Verde Valley had 29 active ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups on 30 consecutive miles of state highway (one section wasn’t Adopted).

Based on the 2012 Adopt-A-Highway group “Activity Reports” received from Sue Olson with ADOT Risk Management, only 62% of the 29 Adopt-A-Highway groups in our area honored their three time per year commitment to the taxpayer funded program. Three times per year and about 6-8 hours per year seems like a reasonable requirement for those that get their names on two Adopt-A-Highway signs, bags and vests for their efforts. As taxpayers, are we going to continue to provide free advertising in the form of Adopt-A-Highway signs for the under-performers in the Adopt-A-Highway program?
