Mary Hostetler, a former member of the Flagstaff Symphony Association Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Flagstaff Symphony Guild, was named Flagstaff Female Citizen of the Year by the Arizona Daily Sun.

Mary is widely recognized for her volunteer work in Flagstaff, particularly at the Flagstaff Medical Center and the Catholic Church as well as with the Symphony. She is the only volunteer worker to have ever earned the Medical Center’s Gold Star award.

Mary has been a Guild member for 19 years and has led the Guild’s primary fundraising effort, the fall Guild Home Tour for the past four years. This event has grown each year and garners thousands of dollars for the Symphony.

Mary has a way of encouraging homeowners to open up their showplaces to the public, and she cajoles Symphony Guild members into selling hundreds of tickets. With her charm and her persistence, she recruits local musicians to perform at the various homes, delighting the guests, the homeowners and the volunteers.

She has also been instrumental in obtaining grants to sponsor the Lollipop Concert, one of the Guild’s major contributions to the community. While on the Symphony Board, Mary chaired the Symphony Gala committee for a number of years.

Congratulations Mary, for a sustained effort in making Flagstaff a better place from the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra.
