The hotels asked for the new tax and ask for it to be used for advertising.

@steve Segner you don’t raise anything. YOU charge TAXES , BTW the LAW,which comes from the PUBLIC- taxpayers. YOU aren’t entitled and the taxpayers shouldn’t be paying for your advertising. WE all know you r playing the system for public funding. Looks like you can’t add either. hehehehe go back to school buddy.

Lorain, If you went to any city meetings you would know I have fought new hotels that (needed a zoning change), “No zoning no hotels”.
No business, is subsidized in Sedona, no money from the chamber or the city goes to any business, most good business in town and in the valley spend money with the chamber because of the excellent web site and marketing programs.
Remember Sedona is a tourist town and over 8000 people earn their living from our guests.
As for competition all the hotels meet once a month, we all work together to try to improve the visitor experience.

GW, hotels raise millions for the city, yes we asked for the bed tax, we get no money from the city (0) we gave the city of Sedona $5,000 from our members. Please if you don’t know don’t speak.
And please show me where you got the 14 MILLION! number, please we would all like to know.

THAT BILL BOARD OF MCDONALDS NEEDS TO BE DOWN ON 179. We don’t go to the Mediterranean place in protest. It should reflect a teal arch building that better councils before the past decade demanded. take it down or put it in the west city limits not the village where it has no reason for being.

Did you see Karne Daines presentation on traffic?
Weirdest thing ever………. The city gives lodging and chamber millions of dollars then they go and ask for some back for traffic.

The city went to the following and got this funding for traffic
Coconino County $20,000
Yavapai County $20,000
Chamber of Commerce $25,000
Sedona Lodging Council $5,000
AZ Dept. of Transportation Unknown

They give the city back 30,000 in total (lodging & chamber) and now they are great guys after taking 14 MILLION! BACKass backwards.

While I support many things the city council does, this isn’t one of them. We don’t need any pilgrims; this isn’t the Santiago walk in Spain and it isn’t a hajj. We don’t have to ask for people to come here, they come here. They came here before the chamber advertised, they’ll continue if the chamber doesn’t advertise. One small office with a computer reaches more people than a huge tourist center and organization sitting in bricks and mortar. On a lighter note, isn’t this rain grand?! We are blessed with a bit of water for our parched earth this season.

@Rumor Has It just watch that crazy nuts JT Thompson. He is trying to bring it all back into the city. You been fooled by a confusing community plan he helped write. Now the city will become a gathering place for everyone with the taxpayers footing the bill.
@Just Askin’ you took the works right out of my mouth ” Who was it died and named Jon Thompson the king of Sedona? In less than one year he surpasses all former council members (including mayors) as being the most pompous ass of all. Of course that’s only an opinion.” Do I hear any seconds to the motion? YES!
JT Thompson went to find someone for the prigrim site. 100 acres and they live, work and play on TAXPAYERS. Who in the ell do they think they are?
