@Susan – I knew one of the self-proclaimed eggspurt cyclists would chime in with misinfo about riding on the sidewalk.

1) At the speed I am going on my Schwinn cruiser, I am not “more dangerous” on the sidewalk. 2) There are so few pedestrians walking along 89A where I ride in West Sedona that they are mostly not even a factor. And if their back is to me I let them know I am coming well in advance. Additionally there is plenty of room for us to pass each other. 3) Drivers coming out of driveways may very well be “unsuspecting”. That is why I am totally “suspecting” when I see them and take appropriate action. ‘There is a lot of skill to riding on the sidewalk.’

You ride yours. I’ll ride mine.

I have ridden thousands of miles in these lanes since they been added to Hwy 179 and 89A , yes thousands! While drivers do drift into the bike lane when there is NO cyclist in them drivers do not drift into the bike lane when there IS a cyclist in the lane. When I drive I do it myself.

The biggest problem I have as a cyclist is that some drivers, very few really, don’t understand that a cyclist, by law, is supposed to “take the lane” through the roundabouts. Then the honking, attempts to pass, and finger waving happens.

Most drivers are very good however I see a lot of uneducated cyclists on the road. There is a lot of skill to riding with cars and sidewalks are more dangerous to both pedestrians and unsuspecting drivers coming out of driveways.

here’s the rub/i drive btwn sedona & ctnwood & sedona & voc several times a week & people cross in to the bike lanes because they’re busy looking at the scenery & the lanes are to narrow not to drift to the bike lanes.

in west sedona god help a biker even if it’s a motorbike & no way should there be markings on that highway.

89a bike route ought to be parallel not on 89a & what state or city engineer doofus decided to mark 89a? even in sun valley nobody marks lanes like this & what the city reps think is beyond this taxpayer. Fire the batch of morons.
