what a great neighborhood effort…in our neighborhood national night out is the catalyst for this…why not consider the same night? it’s fun and a recognized night out event to promote neighborliness so street shut-offs and other problems are addressed

just an idea!!! keep up the fine sense of community no matter what u do!!!

Jim Erick: You and Phyllis were godsends. We couldn’t have pulled off an event of this size without your last-minute assistance.

The folks who said Chapel Area residents wouldn’t leave their comfortable homes to mingle with strangers in the middle of the street on a Sunday evening under-estimated our neighbors. I can barely register how many people I saw whom I’d never seen before! Yay! I’m so proud of each person who came out and made himself or herself vulnerable to strangers and gargantuan cupcakes! :)

So yes, next time we’ll start planning sooner, get a permit for full street closure, string lights and possibly even engage folks to make sure every household gets an invitation in the door. I know we missed some, for which I’m sorry. But getting 140 people to hang out in the street till after dark shows just what wonderful people reside in this neighborhood: Givers! People who want to help and who want to look out for their neighbors.

I *love* our neighborhood!

Today I got a call from someone responsible for VOC connections. He wanted to know how we pulled it off, what paperwork was required, etc. I’d love to write a pamphlet or eBook neighborhoods across the U.S. could use to become more ‘neighborly.’

When we hold the next one maybe will find some lights so people will stay longer! Also, we will try and get a permit where we can actually close off the street without having someone stand at both ends!
