You make a very good point, Jean J. There's some convoluted concept with the dynamos at city hall that's allowed Sedona to get away with being the designated agent for the entire Verde Valley and now it looks like another self-promotion has been imposed for ruling Yavapai County. The day will eventually come when this outrageous, overbearing activity will be stopped once and for all. Nothing lasts forever, and that's the truth.

Thank you DB BUSTER for the news of Yavapai County's 1,000 foot buffer zone for cell towers.

In checking this out, I found a SECTION 605 WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS FACILITIES in their Planning and Zoning Ordinance for the Unincorporated Areas of Yavapai County, Arizona. Page 193 lists restrictions with regard to NEW wireless towers and antennas. Located under APPLICATION REVIEW:

No new wireless communication facilities within one thousand feet (1,000') of any residences, including single and multiple family residences and residential facilities....

No new wireless communication facilities shall be installed atop of....[listed are mountains, etc.]

No new wireless communication facilities shall be installed in....[areas listed]

No new wireless communication facilities shall be installed within unique or scenic areas/sites identified within community plan areas: for example, ....[areas listed]

No new wireless communication facilities shall be installed in any area that may mar mountain views, or visually sensitive areas, particularly but not limited to the view of....[views listed]

Meanwhile, the City of Sedona's Consultant, CityScape, has chosen their eight "Potential Equipment Locations on City Property" by street names. When I complained to the Council about the arbitrary, self-serving rule that Sedona is Urban (requires twice as many wireless towers) instead of Rural, the letter I received from the City Manager went along with CityScape's shitty (my opinion) analyses.

According to the City Manager, "....we would rather have some control/influence/impact on where facilities are located than have none." Si is the City just going to lie down and play dead as "control/influence/impact"? As DB BUSTER comments: "The City of Sedona has a [buffer] zone just big enough so that the tower doesn't hit you when/if it falls." I believe this opens residential areas up wide to cell towers.

F.Y.I. Within incorporated Sedona 8 sites are proposed on City Property/Streets and 10 on Other Property. In addition, CityScape has already identified 16 existing wireless sites Inside the City and 7 Outside the City.

5000 feet for the feds and 1000 feet for Yavapai, that could be a smoking gun that we have been looking and hoping for. Have you ever thought of not being selfish and putting that in writing, along with the facts to back it up, to someone who can do something with it???

since I live in the canyon and know a little bit about the SINGLE tower being installed, allow me to remind you that our houses are not laid out like those in w sedona, we have lots of land and WOULD like to enjoy cell service like you do. Does everyone not remember that during the slide fire first responders had almost no service.

I mean give it a break, ONE tower at the top of the switch backs that can help people and save lives and you're stretching it by saying "You have a lot of towers going in Oak Creek Canyon." simply not true.

Did you know the federal gov't has a 5000 foot buffer zone for cell towers?
Yavapai County has a 1000 foot buffer zone
City of Sedona has a zone just big enough so that the tower doesn't hit you when/if it falls.
That is not promoting public health and safety. Its uneducated.

I have noticed many of the political figures and some commenters here thrive in the sweep it under the rug mentality.

Most enlightened people in the know can figure out that if the government did only one 20 minute daily exposure test on a 200 lb man in the early 90's and have fought tooth and nail against any additional studies, THEY ARE HIDING FACTS.

Why protest without real knowledge rather than try to learn Most of the residents want those last years of their lives. Living near a tower diminishes health.
It could save your future grandchildren. Don't be so ignorant.
You have a lot of towers going in Oak Creek Canyon. Perhaps ask for one on your property next to your bedroom? The rental money will not cover your health expenses.

Rarely do I take time to check out links offered in comments. However because of the implied doubt about whether SE publisher/editor would publish the one offered by Eddie Maddock, it piqued my curiosity - so I did read it.

Although it includes hard core language, one outstanding feature prevails. It is well written, correct English - punctuation and grammar (even the profanities). Point being? The person that composed it was well educated but extremely angry. The observations were well taken and possibly the most important was the failed responsibility by those in charge to uphold probably the most profound faction of the Community Plan, even from the first draft. The specifics mentioned in the link provided were spot on in at least partially enumerating the failure of planners and enforcers to preserve the true beauty of Sedona along with the quality of life, for residents and tourists alike. The small town character has been destroyed.

To the author of that questionable masterpiece, here's a thumbs up and kudos from at least one reader of Sedona Eye. And it most assuredly is an indication that it isn't only this online publication that down right frustrations about the demise of Sedona are being expressed.

It is ( not public health and safety), so move on and or just move, you are way out numbered on this issue.

Are you a big enough person to admit your mistake and apologize and adjust your complaint to the appropriate party and comment with which you take exception? One up side to this might be for SE readers to back track and actually read what I did offer (NOT SO FAST - 11/2) which had NOTHING to do with cell towers which appears to be the ax Mr. Segner is currently grinding. Check it out. You might actually learn something by reading truth and facts.

You make an excellent point!!!

Allow me to understand this correctly, so if the city didn't do every last ditch effort to generate revenue like charging rent to Verizon to use a city cell tower, you'd be ok with that???? In my book IT DANG WELL BETTER BE ABOUT THE MONEY!

As for "public health and safety" I don't see that as a city issue in this case because IT'S THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THAT'S MANDATING IT! Go take it up with Hilary or Trump or who ever wins.

If you really want to do some good I would suggest that you contact those chem trails folks and see if you can both cry on each others shoulders.

The rest of your comments make no sense at all so I won't bother going any further. I'm guessing you're another one who's smoking too much of that funny tobacco either that or you just don't have or want to have any facts. You'd rather just spout nonsense.
