Who NOT to vote for Arizona Corporation Commission

Information & Perspective by Warren Woodward, Sedona, Arizona ~ October 20, 2020

All the candidates are fine except for Republicans Peterson and Sloan. Vote for those two only if you want APS to continue to have sway over the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC).

Peterson was appointed to the ACC during the Champion Formal Complaint against APS's last rate increase. Despite all the evidence provided by Champion (and Intervenors, myself included) that APS's last rate increase was unjustified and wrong, Peterson voted with APS and against ratepayers.

Here is an article that mentions APS funding Peterson in the past: https://azcapitoltimes.com/news/2019/07/02/ties-run-deep-many-between-aps-and-republican-candidates-for-utility-regulator/

Here is an article co-written by Peterson when she was president and CEO of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce promoting demand rates. Such rates were at the heart of the Champion complaint against APS for being punitive to residential ratepayers. https://azcapitoltimes.com/news/2016/03/10/demand-based-rate-strategy-makes-sense/

Please do not vote for Peterson.

Here is an article that details Sloan's and APS's financial relationship (which, in my opinion, is quite unsavory). Please do not vote for him either. https://arizonadailyindependent.com/2019/04/10/corporation-commission-candidate-sloan-spent-millions-for-aps-in-2016/

As for myself, I will be voting for Republican Jim O'Connor. Jim is an outsider who got on the ballot via write-ins. He will stand up to APS.

I will also be voting for Democrat Bill Mundell. Bill is a personal friend who I know will also stand up to APS.

Lastly, I will be voting for Democrat Anna Tovar. Democrat Shea Stanfield is also worth voting for but we only get to vote for three candidates.
