Crews will continue to work on the new bridge over Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction next week, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/State Route 69 traffic interchange.

The following restrictions will be in place to provide a safe work zone:

Sunday (June 10) from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

      ● Both directions of I-17 will have single-lane restrictions.

Monday (June 11) through Thursday (June 14) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

● Both directions of I-17 will have alternating lane restrictions to allow crews to strip pavement from the former detour route.

Wednesday (June 13) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

● Both directions of I-17 will be closed intermittently between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. to allow crews to pour a concrete deck on the new bridge over I-17.

      ● Both directions of I-17 will have alternating lane restrictions.

● The southbound I-17 off-ramp to SR 69 will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow crews to work on the new bridge over I-17.

DETOUR: Traffic will be detoured three miles southbound on I-17 to Bloody Basin Road (Exit 259) and then directed to turn around and use northbound I-17 to reach the SR 69 exit.

The work zone will be clearly marked with temporary barricades and signage.
Travel Advisory: Southbound Interstate 17 in North Phoenix scheduled for closure overnight Friday (June 8) - ADOT reminds drivers to plan for 18-mile detour route

PHOENIX - Drivers heading into the Valley on Interstate 17 should plan for a full closure of the southbound travel lanes and frontage road this Friday night in North Phoenix. Crews are scheduled to install the last two spans of a new pedestrian bridge that crosses I-17 near Jomax Road at the Central Arizona Project (CAP) canal. Drivers will use an 18-mile detour. Services – including fuel, water and restrooms – are limited on the detour route, so ADOT reminds all drivers to plan accordingly.

Traffic on northbound Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction will be shifted onto the new bridge over Big Bug Creek next week, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The traffic shift will require northbound and southbound lane restrictions and two nights of periodic full closures up to 30 minutes at a time between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Monday (June 4) and Wednesday (June 6).

The following restrictions and closures will be in place next week:

      ● Sunday (June 3) from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.: The southbound I-17 off-ramp to State Route 69 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow crews to work on the new bridge over I-17. Traffic will be detoured three miles southbound on I-17 to Bloody Basin Road (Exit 259) and then directed to turn around and use northbound I-17 to reach the SR 69 exit.

      ● Monday (June 4) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Southbound I-17 will have alternating lane restrictions and intermittent 30-minute southbound closures from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. to allow crews to switch traffic onto the new bridge.

      ● Tuesday (June 5) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Both directions of I-17 will have alternating lane restrictions to allow crews to set temporary barrier along the new alignment onto the Big Bug Creek bridge.

● Wednesday (June 6) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Both directions of I-17 will have alternating lane restrictions and another night of intermittent 30-minute northbound closures from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. to shift traffic onto the new Big Bug Creek bridge.

● Thursday (June 7) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Both directions of I-17 will have a left lane restriction to allow crews to strip pavement from the pre-existing detour route.

Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures during these hours or allow extra travel time to reach their destination. The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/State Route 69 traffic interchange.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.

Paving scheduled on northbound I-17 north of Sedona turnoff this weekend - Drivers advised to allow extra travel time between Phoenix and Flagstaff.

The final work to repave a six-mile segment of northbound Interstate 17 north of State Route 179 (Sedona turnoff) will begin Friday morning (June 1), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The $5 million project, which includes repaving the roadway with smooth, quiet, rubberized asphalt from the Stoneman Lake traffic interchange to the Coconino County line, began last year and will be completed this weekend.

Northbound I-17 will be restricted to one lane through the work zone and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Allow extra travel time and to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
