I feel that the intention of the War on Poverty was good and it is good to hear that we are still working on it and not lost complete sight of its relevance. I have worked in health and human services for almost 20 years, working hand in hand with the poor and marginalized. The challenge of the War on Poverty is that the focus of the message is negative. If we change the message and call it something like, the "Prosperity Movement" our focus, outcomes and outlook might be different. To go to the gym and constantly say, "I am fat. I am unfit. I am weak." is far different than saying, "I am getting stronger. I am getting healthier. I feel well." That which we believe, we become (or are doomed to repeat).
