YCSO Seeking Golf Cart Thieves

Prescott AZ (November 27, 2012) – In recent weeks, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated several golf maintenance cart thefts in and around the Prescott Country Club (PCC) which is located just off Arizona State Highway 69 in Dewey, Arizona. Some of the cart thefts originated in the nearby Quailwood subdivision of Prescott Valley, Arizona and involve suspect(s) dumping the stolen carts on Prescott Country Club property.

YCSO has been working with Prescott Valley Police Officers in an attempt to solve these crimes.

In one incident reported to YCSO on November 10, 2012, suspect(s) cut away chain link fencing surrounding the PCC golf course maintenance yard and stole an electric utility cart. The cart was found later some distance away on the golf course.

As with most of the thefts, the incident likely occurred during the late night/early morning hours. A week prior, a cart from the Quailwood Greens Golf Course was found behind a home in the Prescott Country Club.

As recently as November 21, 2012, YCSO and Prescott Valley Police handled the theft and recovery of several carts in these communities.

Deputies believe suspects are starting the carts with duplicate keys as owners have not been leaving keys in the ignition. Carts are found with structural damage from being ridden off-road and the greens themselves are being damaged by being driven on when covered with frost. Although these acts may appear to be innocent pranks, they actually constitute serious felony charges of Theft of Transportation, Trespassing, and Criminal Damage.

Suspect(s) could also lose driving privileges if convicted.

YCSO is seeking the public’s help to report suspicious activity in these community areas. Please be especially alert outside normal daytime business hours. Generally, the golf maintenance carts are not driven after hours and the activity appears more frequent over weekend nights and during school breaks.

If anyone has information to help identify suspect(s) in these incidents, please contact YCSO at 928-771-3260 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 800-932-3232.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260 or the YCSO website at www.ycsoaz.gov.
