Yavapai County Sheriff Scott Mascher

Sedona AZ (August 28, 2014) – Yesterday’s collision on State Highway 89 south of Chino Valley, Arizona, involved Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office employee Anthony “Tony” Palermo, 73, who works in a civilian capacity as its Crime Prevention Specialist.

Tony has spent hundreds of hours hosting neighborhood watch programs and community events around the county for nearly two years. He was previously a volunteer with the Prescott Police Department and has prior law enforcement experience with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.

Tony remains in the Flagstaff Medical Center ICU undergoing treatment for a leg fracture, broken rib and lacerations on his head and upper body. His condition is stabilized and medical staff indicates the injuries are not life threatening.

YCSO Sheriff Scott Mascher was on the accident scene as Palermo underwent preparation for airlift to Flagstaff Medical Center. The Sheriff also spent several hours at the hospital with Tony and his family.

I would also like to thank EMS personnel for their quick work getting Tony safely out of the vehicle and coordinating immediate medical air transportation. His YCSO family will be here to assist him as needed throughout recovery.”

The Sheriff also expresses his hope that the other driver involved in the collision is doing well.

The collision is being investigated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
