Yavapai County Unsung Hero

A. G. "Chip" Davis, Yavapai County Supervisor

Sedona AZ (November 1, 2011) – On October 31, 2011 Yavapai County Supervisor A.G. “Chip” Davis presented Pam Lane with Red Rock State Park the Unsung Hero of the Month award.

The Yavapai County award was named the “Unsung” Hero Award in order to recognize those individuals that do not seek the limelight or the spotlight but, as Supervisor Davis states, “Are great people who do good things.”

In February 2009 when Arizona State parks were hit with severe budget cuts, Pam Lane’s position was one of the first to be eliminated. Lane found herself in the position of having to choose between her Park Ranger status or continuing as the Red Rock State Park Gift Shop Supervisor in a volunteer capacity. She officially chose to give up being a Park Ranger.

Tasked with product selection, ordering, pricing, inventory and merchandise stocking, Pam turned what was a marginal endeavor at best into the number one Arizona State Park Retail Sales Operation grossing over $400,000 in sales in two years.

“Pam Lane is truly an Unsung Hero of Arizona State Parks, and of mine” said Gary Arbeiter, Red Rock State Park Manager.

The radio show was simultaneously videotaped by the Yavapai Broadcasting Company.  The video is available for viewing at www.verdevalleytv.com.
