Yavapai County Superior Court Clerk Appointed

Sandra Markham

PHOENIX AZ (May 2 2011)–Arizona Governor Jan Brewer announced the appointment of Sandra Markham to serve as the Clerk of the Superior Court for Yavapai County.

“It is an honor to appoint Sandra Markham as Clerk of the Superior Court for Yavapai County,” said Governor Brewer. “Her numerous years as a court reporter and her institutional knowledge from serving within the Yavapai County Court system will serve the residents of Yavapai County well.”

Ms. Markham’s professional experience includes over 34 years in the court system and 25 years of familiarity with the Yavapai Clerk’s Office. For the last seven years, she served as the Official Court Reporter for the Honorable Robert M. Brutinel, Arizona Supreme Court Justice, who prior to his appointment by Governor Brewer, was the Presiding Judge of the Yavapai County Superior Court. Her additional court reporting experience includes ten years serving the Honorable Raymond W. Weaver Jr., nine years for the Honorable James B. Sult, and eight years as a junior partner for a freelance court reporting firm in California.

In addition to her court reporting duties, Ms. Markham’s professional certifications include serving as the Chair of the Arizona Board of Certified Reporters for ten years. She also served as the committee member representing the Certified Reporters Board for the Arizona Supreme Court Keeping the Record Committee from 2004 to 2005. In 2001, Ms. Markham became a member of the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts, Judicial Staff Education Committee, where she started a court reporter track for continuing education.

Ms. Markham’s community activities include serving as Treasurer and Regional Director for the Arizona PTA, a member of the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Council of Electors, Treasurer for the Prescott Band Boosters and serving as a board member of the Prescott YMCA.

This appointment was made to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Jeanne Hicks, who has served as Clerk of the Court since 2002. Ms. Markham will begin her term on May 1, 2011.

“I want to thank Jeanne Hicks for her many years of service and dedication to the citizens of Yavapai County,” said Governor Brewer. “I wish her the very best.”
