Facilities employees place a high priority on seeking programs and innovations that will maximize efficiency and save money for the taxpayers. In FY2012/13, new objectives were implemented to increase energy efficiency and utility savings, and streamline maintenance costs and significant progress was made.

In 2013, two county buildings were retrofitted with energy efficient building management systems. In 2014, installation was completed on Yavapai County’s first solar field in Camp Verde, and, an energy efficient HVAC system renovation at the Prescott Courthouse was completed. In 2015 and 2016, a completed extensive replacement of inefficient and outmoded HVAC units were replaced with new energy efficient units at the Cottonwood Verde Valley Services building and the Camp Verde Detention Center.

The county-wide program of replacing standard light fixtures with long life energy saving LED lighting has garnered substantial energy savings, reduced maintenance labor, reduced disposal fees and APS rebates. Water is saved with the low water use fixtures and monitoring of utility bills spots irregularities or spikes in usage that are investigated in order to resolve issues that contribute to excess power or water usage.

Custodial employees are cutting costs and “going green” by using natural, sustainable cleaning systems to reduce use of harsh, expensive cleaning chemicals. These are just a few examples of how Facilities employees are proactively looking for cost cutting opportunities that save taxpayer dollars.
