Yavapai County Government Development Services Overview

yavapai county arizona logoSedona AZ (April 11, 2016) – Designing and planning that new dream home or garage is a fun and exciting process. However, actually making that dream project a reality can be a daunting and intimidating challenge. They say the devil is in the details, and there are many details to think about when it comes to building projects. What kind of septic system is required? How many stories can the house have? What kinds of permits are needed? That is where the Yavapai County Development Services Department is here to help.

The Development Services Department is charged with ensuring that all aspects of any building project in the unincorporated areas of Yavapai County are safe and in the best interests of health for the public. The fact is that there are many Federal and State laws, as well as locally adopted ordinances that regulate public health and safety. The County is responsible for ensuring compliance with those laws and regulations on all land within its jurisdiction. Development Services not only works to ensure that land use and building safety laws are complied with, but also that overall County growth and building is sustainable for the future.

Whether it is a storage shed or a shopping mall, it must be constructed in the safest possible way and the Development Services Department is here to help each of its customers reach that goal. The department brings together all planning and building related services into a single office to ensure the most efficient and convenient service possible to its customers. This means that a customer can walk into one office and obtain information or service on building permits, addressing, building plans examination, inspections, development and design review, planning, floodplain management, enforcement of the Planning and Zoning Ordinance, and environmental regulations for wastewater disposal. For larger projects, staff will coordinate with other departments or even other government agencies to facilitate a streamlined process for the customer.

Customers are provided a “one-stop” process in which all their needs are addressed during one visit. The staff is always happy to answer any questions that come up. This one-stop approach saves time and money for both the customer and the department. The department’s goal is always to help its customers to understand the process and the steps involved. Staff members will also address issues of concern with members of the public at homeowner’s association meetings and other community organizations, upon request.

So, when you are ready to build that dream project, Development Services will be there to help you every step of the way with its two offices, one in Prescott and one in Cottonwood. The offices are open Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Additional information about specific services and regulatory information can be found online at http://www.yavapai.us/devserv or by calling the Customer Service main line at (928)-771-3214.
