Yavapai College Seeks Community Input

Yavapai College logoSedona AZ (June 8, 2014) The Yavapai College District Governing Board is seeking feedback from Yavapai County residents and property owners on the Board’s responsibility to provide education, economic development and cultural enrichment at a justifiable cost to county taxpayers.

The Board has created a brief survey to capture constituent feedback. The survey is available online via the Yavapai College web site (www.yc.edu) or in hard copy form by calling 928-717-7713.

The survey will be available until midnight on Saturday, July 12, 2014. The Board is publicizing the survey via direct mail and paid ads in various media, and the survey is open to Yavapai County residents and or taxpayers 18 and older.

Those who complete the survey and contact information will be entered to win an iPad donated by the Yavapai College Foundation. However, Yavapai College employees are not eligible to win the iPad.

The DGB, which is composed of elected Yavapai County residents from each of the county’s five districts, is responsible for governing on behalf of and is accountable to Yavapai County taxpayers and residents. The board oversees the performance of the Yavapai College District President, Dr. Penny Wills, who is responsible for developing and executing programs that meet the board’s three goals. Board members are not directly responsible for day-to-day management, operations and decisions of Yavapai College.

“We want to know if we’re on the right track in terms of our goals, or ‘ends’ as we call them, and how people are taking advantage of the educational, cultural and economic development programs that the college offers,” explained Board spokesperson Herald Harrington. “Serving a district that stretches from Bagdad to Black Canyon City to Seligman to Sedona is a challenge, and we think it’s vital that we get as much feedback as possible.”

Harrington points out that, in addition to the survey, members of the public are invited to attend and speak at the DGB’s monthly meetings. The only requirement is that those wishing to address the Board must sign in to do so at the site of the meeting before it begins. The DGB meeting schedule is available online at http://www.yc.edu/v5content/district-governing-board/default.htm.

Board members are Ray Sigafoos, Board chairman from District 1; Herald Harrington, Board spokesperson from District 2; Al Filardo, District 3; Dr. Patricia McCarver, District 4; and Dr. Dale Fitzner, District 5.
