Woman Missing Near Ashfork AZ

Sedona AZ (July 16, 2016) – The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public to help with its effort to locate a missing 70 year old woman.

Linda Schleizer, 70, walked away from her home outside Ashfork around 4:00 in the afternoon today and failed to return home. Schleizer suffers from severe Alzheimer’s and when stressed, she has a tendency to withdraw and may have panic attacks. Schleizer will not answer to her name when called.

Coconino County Patrol MapSchleizer commonly walks around the family property and normally returns home. She was an avid hiker, and it is unknown how far she may walk. The family home is about 8.4 miles northwest of Ashfork, and about 4.7 miles north of AZ Interstate 40.

Schleizer is 5 feet 6 inches tall, 108 pounds, brown hair with hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a burnt orange shirt, purple shorts, gray Sketcher tennis shoes and prescription glasses.

The search is being conducted by Coconino County with assistance from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger Helicopter out of Flagstaff, and the Kaibab Estates West Fire Department.

    Today the search continues with approximately 60 personnel on the mission including ground searchers, mounted searchers, area search dog, ATVs, jeeps, management personnel, and helicopters.

    After over 150 personnel and 200 manhours expended, there is no trace of Linda, no clues have been found. A silver alert was activated. AZ TV stations have been notified. A missing persons flier has been provided to media outlets.

    The public is being notified that searchers with Yavapai County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue were conducting a follow-up search for Linda Schleizer, 70, when they found her body at about 9 a.m. Saturday, approximately 3/4 mile east of her home under a juniper tree in a shallow wash area, west of Ashfork in the Juniperwood Ranch area.

    Her husband reported her missing after she walked away from her home on July 16: CCSO activated a Silver Alert and more than 150 Coconino County and Yavapai County Sheriff’s personnel, including mounted units, search dogs, ATVs, jeeps and helicopters, spent several days and nights searching for her with no luck.

    The Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Rescue, Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Wing Civil Air Patrol, Kaibab Estates West Fire Department and Ash Fork Fire Department assisted with the searches.

    The active search was suspended July 20, however follow-up searches were conducted July 23 and 30. The cause of death is under investigation.
