Walker Area Fire Contained

At 1:15 PM today, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) announced evacuations for the Walker Area Fire have been lifted. Roads into Walker will remain blocked to non-residents. The United States Forest Service has reported containment of this fire and thanks everyone for their cooperation.

The following is the timeline of events that lead to the report and containment of the Walker area fire:

At 11:45 a.m., the American Red Cross established a shelter at Yavapai College, 1100 East Sheldon Street, Prescott, Arizona 86301, for residents who were evacuated from Walker. Residents took shelter in the gymnasium – the Animal shelter is in Building 4, Room 4126.

The fire area estimate remains at approximately two acres – flames have subsided somewhat but wind remains a factor.

USFS is the lead on the fire out of the Prescott National Forest office.

Residents will be allowed back into the area under escort to retrieve pets/medications/etc. Please contact personnel at any roadblock for assistance.

At 11:15 AM — Evacuations for the target area remain underway:  USFS has labeled this incident the “Boundary Fire.” Road blocks into Walker are in position. The Yavapai County Emergency Operations Center has been activated.

Fire status will be updated as soon as possible.

May 13, 201410:30 a.m. – YCSO is currently evacuating portions of the Walker area due to a wildfire in the area. A Code Red Emergency Notification Alert has been sent to an area encompassing a one mile radius of Transcendent Lane in Walker.

USFS has at least one water dropping helicopter on site. PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE AREA TO ALLOW RESIDENTS AND FIRE VEHICLES PRIORITY ACCESS TO ROADWAYS.

Roadway closures into Walker will be in effect shortly.

Fire is estimated at two acres – Rescue 1 is on site providing fire managers an aerial view of the operation. No structures have been damaged at this time.

The Yavapai Emergency Operation Center was activated at 10:45 a.m.
