AZ SR 89A roadside trash

Sedona AZ (November 18, 2014)The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:

Dear SedonaEye.com editors,

What would we look like without our ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups?

I did take notice of some of the ADOT Adopt-A-Highway litter bags late Sunday (November 15, 2014) afternoon, the names of the ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups and the number of bags of trash that they picked up.

I remember a point in time when these litter bags were collected by multiple groups on the third Saturday of February, May, August and November each year on State Highway 89A and State Highway 260, but it appears that this “team concept-effort” has been abandoned. It is also very clear that the amount of highway litter between Sedona, Cottonwood and Camp Verde has increased dramatically in 2014 ….. what gives?

Highway litter on SR 260

There may have been more groups and litter collected on this third Saturday of November but someone else will have to report on their effort.

I would like to thank Mal Otterson and his Verde Valley Property Owners Association which collected 38 bags on Highway 260 plus Katy Welch and the Rio Verde Roverettes which collected 8 bags on Highway 89A for their efforts to make the Verde Valley a little more pleasing to look at.

Speaking from experience, these ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups deserve being recognized for their efforts …… will you thank them or better yet will you “Help them”?

  1. good work mal & katy & all

  2. A few days after submitting this “Letter to Editor” that was printed in The SedonaEyE.com, Camp Verde Bugle and Verde Independent, I drove from Cornville to Sedona and took note of the efforts of the Verde Valley Cyclists (14 bags), Sedona Car Club (14 bags) and the Kiwanis Club of Sedona (13 bags).

Nothing brings a smile quicker to me than seen the blue ADOT bags of trash collected by folks that care.

If any of you could use some help provided by youth groups please let me know.
