Unsung Hero, Manny Lugo, Wins Yavapai Award

This community is truly blessed with many faithful and loving volunteers that work hard to make this a better place to live and thrive in.

Unsung Hero, Manny Lugo receives Yavapai award from Chip Davis, County Supervisor

One such individual is Manny Lugo, nominated by Rebecca Walker: the Compassion Services Manager of the Old Town Mission. He has been a faithful volunteer at the Old Town Mission in Cottonwood for over seven years now. He arrives every Tuesday to head up the lunch crew; preparing, serving, and cleaning up lunch for up to 75 hungry folks. In addition, Manny assists with every special event and program the Mission has, volunteering in the hot summer sun or cold winter with a “soft and loving servant’s heart reaching out to neighbors in need.”

Mr. Lugo has logged approximately 1,200 hours at the Mission, an achievement that is tremendously appreciated through out the community. The Old Town Mission thanks Manny for his “life, leadership, love and service.”

On the beautiful morning of Wednesday October 20, 2010 Mr. Lugo accepted his award on the “Mark in the Morning Show” presented by Supervisor A. G. “Chip” Davis.

If you have an Unsung Hero in mind, please contact DeShannan at Supervisor Davis’ office at (928) 639-8110 or email deshannan.young@co.yavapai.az.us. Each winner will be asked to select a song to be played on the radio, receive a certificate, and have an article put in the local newspapers.

The radio show was simultaneously video taped by the Yavapai Broadcasting Company.  The video is available for viewing at www.myradioplace.com.

So many news people and newspapers will not print good news and we are beginning to really like this web site and its newspaper so keep up the good work! Enjoyed the Jack o Lantern story very much. We did not know the history and it was fun to read and we decided to spend an afternoon in Jerome because of the articles (enjoyed a few sips of wine and ate a hamburger overlooking the valley below) and we walked by the fire station to tell the chief that the Sedona Times sent us and peeked around the building but no one seemed to be at the stationhouse. Thanks for the reminder that pretty Jerome is close by and we look forward to reading more news and papers. Mr. Hollywood is a nice addition and the dogs writing each other was fun and liked reading the story about cleaning up the town and helping each other day. We still have not read all the stories yet but will be and liked getting it at Safeway. We saw the paper in Jerome at the historical society building and at a couple of stores! Thank you and the best to you all. Betsey and Larry, Camp Verde
