Two Airplanes Crash Same Day Same Area

Coconino County Sheriff's Office Patrol MapPage AZ (May 28, 2013) – For the second time this day, May 28, 2013, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office received a call that an airplane had crashed within its jurisdiction. The first crash, earlier, had involved a private plane failing lift off from Pullium Airport, Flagstaff, with two known deaths. The second call was reporting a plane crash near the Navajo Generating Station, five miles east of the Page airport.

At approximately 4:00 in the afternoon, via cellphone, the Page Police Department received a call from the passengers of a downed aircraft. The passengers were reporting that the airplane pilot, only, had sustained injuries in the crash.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, National Park Service, Navajo Police Department, and the Page Fire Department responded to the crash area and located the aircraft and its passengers. An initial assessment of the pilot and four passengers affirmed only minor injuries to the pilot.

The aircraft is a privately owned, dual engine plane out of Nevada. The plane had taken off from New Orleans, Louisiana to Nevada, with planned fuel stops in Texas and Page, Arizona. According to statements received by deputies, after departing Texas, the aircraft’s fuel supply ran out approximately five miles short of reaching its re-fueling destination at the Page Airport.

Investigation of the plane crash will be conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
