Trader Joe’s Walmart and Costco Fruit Recall

fruit 2Sedona AZ (July 22, 2014) – A possible listeria contamination has led to a national recall of peaches, pluots, nectarines and other fruits packed by a California company, Wawona. The Wawona Packing Company informed retailers Wal-Mart, Costco and Trader Joe’s and others to remove its fruit products from store shelves.

The recall applies to “certain lots of whole peaches (white and yellow), nectarines (white and yellow), plums and pluots packed between June 1, 2014 through July 12, 2014,” according to a FDA recall bulletin.

Walmart and Sam’s Club stores posted notices about the fruit recall on their websites.

Wawona says it has eliminated the problem at its plant. Consumers with questions should contact the company at 1-888-232-9912.

peach“We are aware of no illnesses related to the consumption of these products,” company President Brent Smittcamp said. “By taking the precautionary step of recalling product, we will minimize even the slightest risk to public health, and that is our priority.”

Listeria can cause serious illnesses, and even death in young children and those with weakened immune systems. It can also pose serious risks to pregnant women. The Listeria bacteria can pose problems because it continues to grow even in refrigerated foods.

Sedona IGA has signs posted that its fruit isn’t part of the recall. IGA carries the organic food line “Cadia” that New Frontiers once stocked but no longer does, since Whole Foods took over. Yeah, IGA!

Natural Grocers also carries Cadia which personally I do not like because of the added sodium that is used in their products.

  3. I’m unsure what sodium content you are referring to – – – I went into the pantry and checked labels. My strawberry preserves have 0 % sodium. My boxes of Farfalle and Linguine pasta have 0 % sodium content. My Mango Salsa has 4% sodium which I compared to 3 others on my shelf with the same or 1% more. What are we missing?

Thanks so much for your information about the Cadia labels you checked in your pantry. Apparently, you don’t buy canned beans or canned peas.
