Thank You Sedona Eye

American FlagSedona AZ (December 17, 2014) – The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:

The Legion Post and Auxiliary 135 salutes Sedona Eye!

As the 5th annual American Legion Post and Auxiliary 135 warm clothing drive for veterans and children closes, they send thanks to the management of the Sedona Eye, specifically C. Bentley Hill, owner and publisher of the Sedona Eye, for the generous monetary and clothing donation. Hill’s dad was a WWII POW airman and, in his honor, the monetary donation will be passed along to a veteran’s program, such as The American Legion National Emergency Fund (AEF).

The Sedona Eye also collected cash donations from subscribers Abe and Eileen Koniarsky ($30) and Sharon Walker ($30) which it delivered with the clothing on December 13, 2014. We salute you!

During the recent Verde Valley clothing drive, the Post and Auxiliary collected nearly 75 adult winter coats and outer garments; 35 children’s items, plus many other items related to cold weather. Some of the winter adult pieces were recently distributed at the Jerome/Clarkdale Elks veteran’s appreciation lunch, while the children’s items will be donated on December 20 at the Cornville Fire Station from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. (first come first served basis).

The remaining adult items were redistributed to the VA Clinic in Prescott to the patients and their families, while the children’s garments will be donated to a local abused spouse’s shelter. The monetary donation will be sent to The American Legion NEF which is an ongoing relief fund that is available to all American Legion members and Sons of the American Legion members during a declared natural disaster. One of the most recent events that NEF supported members was the Yarnell Hillside Fire that resulted in the loss of 19 firefighters. During 2014, the Legion paid nearly $77,000 to eligible members.

Thanks Sedona Eye and subscribers and the members of the Verde Valley for supporting the efforts of the American Legion Post 135 in their determination to support our communities! For more information about the American Legion or American Legion Auxiliary 135 please call Post Cmdr. Ken Johnson at 805-714-9369 or Unit President Patty Eames at 928-821-3894.

Very nice. Let’s hope it stymies the gang that so enjoys putting a negative spin on almost all featured articles on this site. It’s too bad more of us didn’t know about the drive before hand or maybe we just missed notification? Sorry about that but congratulations anyway for a great job for a worthy cause.

  2. want to say thanks. Good folks.
