Shot Fired Into Black Canyon City Bank

Sedona AZ (January 10, 2013) – On January 4, 2013, at approximately 4:50 PM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported shot fired into the occupied Bank of the West building, 34301 Old Black Canyon Highway, Black Canyon City, Arizona.

YCSO Deputies contained the area and searched for suspect(s) while detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau met with bank employees. Detectives confirmed that one shot had been fired through a bank window from an unknown location outside the building. Fortunately, no one inside the bank was hurt.

Detectives soon learned that a bank employee received a phone call prior to the shot being fired and the content of the call indicates a connection to the incident. The exact motivation of the shooting is still to be determined.

YCSO detectives are working leads in the investigation jointly with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Detectives are aware of the robbery at the Bank of the West in Tolleson, Arizona on January 5, 2013, but initial inquires do not indicate a link to the Black Canyon City bank shooting.

  1. Black Canyon City Bank Robbery Suspect In-Custody – 48-year-old Scottsdale resident Alan Farber was arrested by the FBI on February 6, 2013, in Phoenix as a suspect in 4 bank robberies.

    One of the robberies charged involved the January 4th, 2013, incident at Bank of the West in Black Canyon City. In this incident, a shot was fired into the occupied bank as part of an apparent robbery attempt.

    YCSO detectives, working with the FBI, linked the suspect to this incident by evidence. This case, along with the additional
    Arizona bank robberies cases allegedly involving Farber, is being prosecuted in Federal District Court.
