Sedona AZ (March 27, 2012) – The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:
Dear Sedona Eye Editor,
In addition to the candidates running in opposition to the three recalled Board members, Justin Paffrath has declared his candidacy. “I am running to join forces with Charles Christensen and Phyllis Erick in order to end wasteful spending once in for all.” (sic) (www.sedonafire.info) Pafffrath is running against Dave Blauert — in direct alignment with Charles Christensen and Phyllis Erick.
I believe anyone perpetuating salacious rumors and baseless accusations should be pilloried in the town square (or in the center of one of our roundabouts). But there are times, regardless of how distasteful it may be, when facts must be revealed to inform citizens who might otherwise be vulnerable.
In November 2002, Justin Paffrath was sentenced to ten years probation as a result of a drug conviction. Six years later a DUI conviction extended his probation another year. (See PeopleFinders Comprehensive Background Check below.)
The nature of these transgressions clearly illustrates the “caliber” of this candidate. He violated the terms of the first probation with yet further substance abuse. Driving Under the Influence, he demonstrated blatant disregard for his own safety while thoughtlessly putting the safety and well-being of others in serious jeopardy.
This man has apparently now paid his debt to society. For that, I commend him. I do not, however, want him to represent my interests nor be the guardian of my well-being on any public safety Governing Board. His lack of judgment (and inability to make sound decisions) is a matter of record. Had I not already lost all respect for those Board members subject to recall, their endorsement of this candidate would certainly do the trick.

Thank you Rose Lowdon for beating me to the punch as my intention was/is to clear the air in my submission to the Red Rock News for Publication of my candidacy in the Re-Call election.
Ten years ago i was implicated in a crime due to a so called friend and a tenant. This misdemeanor was because of a green plant called cannabis. This plant is now legal for medical use in many states. I was discharged from “probation” early and well before that night i had a couple beers, went to bed, only to be woken up by a friend in need of a ride late at night. I was picked up for driving a few miles over the speed limit and it resulted in a failed breathalyzer and i pleaded guilty to a DUI. This was years ago. I am sorry for my dis-services to society BUT I DO NOT REGRET THE LIFE LESSONS these experiences have gained me.
The majority of Congress people we have working in our upper echelons of government have far more questionable backgrounds than myself.
I am an honest, caring and loving christian with concern over this re-call election. This election was set into motion by challengers claiming $120,000+ in attorney’s fees, a $200,000 “audit” showing millions in potential savings and a $40,000 new chief selection process; they are calling wasteful spending with an intent to build an un-needed station? This 8th station in a community less than 20,000 people would raise taxes for generations to come and create about $ Two Million in additional overhead each year.
I am also concerned with a previous SFD Chief who voluntarily resigned. Is now Chief for a neighboring district and wants to moonlight on the Sedona Fire District Board? This is alarming! Discussions to consolidate our Sedona Fire District with Neighboring Emergency Service providers have taken place and even been on the agenda for Board Meeting Minutes in a neighboring District! Sedona has a much higher average property value this would spell disaster for the Sedona Tax payer and we would defiantly get the short end of the stick if we allow this to happen. It would only take a vote of three people to consolidate our district.
These and many other issues are why i have decided to run for the Board.
At this stage in the game I KNOW that Phyllis Erick and Charles Christensen are the lesser of Two Evils compared to the conflict of interest with the Challengers.
Vote Wisely Sedona!
Justin Paffrath
you must be kidding?
It’s time that the two bozos promoting him resign, they seem as capable of morality and good decisions like a kentucky jackass loves to run in the kentucky derby
Are you kidding me? This guy claims honesty, but tries to downplay his drug involvement and drunk driving violation and length of probation?
I saw him at the forum the other night and every so called fact he claims about costs, Fire departments, etc. was pure fabrication.
This is the last person we want to “oversee” our safety!
Wow. This guy is the best person that Erick and Christensen could find to run with them?
They actually went out and found an ex-felon who regards them as, “the lesser of two evils” and are willing to put his name next to theirs.
Speechless does not cover my state of disbelief.
No regrets from Mr. Paffrath about his extensive record. I wonder if charlie and phyllis are having regrets now? I think i will pass on him and his running mates. What a JOKE.
For clarification, Mr Paffrath is running against the recall slate of Hazime, and the incumbent Blauert. If he wins he would possibly be on the board with Erick and Christensen, or possibly on the board with Schoen and Cooperman. You could just as easily say he is aligned with Schoen and Cooperman, If he said so, without their confirmation, would you believe it?
If you want the biggest tax increase and a unnecessary Chapel station go with Hazime, Schoen and Cooperman.
If you want a board who is trying to reduce spending without a cut in services, vote for Blauert, Christensen and Erick. Or Paffrath if you don’t like Blauert and Hazimi, it’s a free country.
As to the legal fees, the previous chief allowed residents to contact the Fire Districts attorneys, and bill the fire district. I was in Wednesdays meeting, the same person who complained about the boards spending on legal fees, also complained he could not get answers he wanted from the boards lawyers, at the districts expense. Some other legal costs were do to the Hazime resignation, the search for a new chief, and the legality of cost cutting measures.
Lies and deception builds bad Karma.
Tony, Tony, Tony… No, I would not believe that Paffrath is running with Schoen and Cooperman. Because they know what they are talking about and he doesn’t. We all know he is running with Christensen and Erick. Why? Because he said so on a stupid website I will not name. But, it’s there, isn’t it?
I was at Wednesday’s meeting too. And, no, the previous Chief did not “allow” residents to contact the district’s attorney. That would be Mr. Blauert. I know because I know a citizen he told to call the attorney about something he didn’t have an answer to. This current Board has spent $140,000 plus in attorney’s fees since they took office. Doesn’t that bother you a little bit? You can’t blame all of those fees on other citizens. Really!!!
Ann, Ann, Ann, Ann…….. I though that you weren’t going to respond to me anymore? With more innuendo and unsubstantiated statements, will you EVER state a fact?
I did not blame all the legal fees on other citizens, I blamed them partially on citizens being able to call the Fire Districts attorneys and bill the district. I blamed them partially on Hazime’s resignation, partially on the search for a new chief and partially to make sure the much needed cuts were legal. I’m sure some were also for the board to verify they had done the correct, legal thing, against much opposition.
Sunlight, (and truth) is the best disinfectant.
