Sedona AZ (July 9, 2013) – Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives are investigating a domestic violence incident between a seventy three year-old man and his twenty nine year-old wife during which the husband was shot one time in the chest from close range with a small caliber handgun. 

On Sunday, July 7, 2013, Deputies responded to the report of a shooting in the residential community of Parks, Arizona, located along Interstate Highway 40 between Bellemont and Williams. When they arrived, the deputies found a victim who had been shot once in the chest and appeared to be in serious medical condition. The injured man was treated by Guardian medical personnel and then transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Due to the man’s medical condition, detectives have not been able to interview him as of yet.

The man’s wife told deputies that she and her husband spent a great deal of time on Sunday at a bar located close to their neighborhood. According to her, both consumed a significant amount of alcohol during the course of that day. She reported that, after returning home, the two began to argue and her husband elected to leave and spend the night in his jeep parked outside the residence.

She stated to detectives that at some point during the evening, her husband reentered the home. Once again, the two began to argue and her husband placed his hands around her neck and began choking her. At some point during this altercation the man was shot once in the chest with a 22 caliber hand gun.

Detectives are continuing the investigation in an attempt to determine who produced the weapon and who was holding the weapon at the time of the shooting. No arrests have been made at this point.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office is withholding the names of the two involved individuals pending further investigation.
