City personnel will continue to monitor conditions and work through the night to maintain major roadways and intersections in Sedona as snow continues to fall. Major/emergency routes are the first priority, and neighborhood streets will not be cleared until the storm abates, perhaps not until late on Friday, Feb. 22.

Neighborhood streets will not be cleared until the storm abates, which is anticipated after midday tomorrow, Feb. 22. Please note that when plows clear neighborhood streets following a significant snowfall, it is unavoidable that snow will be pushed across driveway entrances. We appreciate your understanding and patience. If you are in a position to assist a neighbor who may need help clearing snow from their driveway entrance, please do so.

More snow expected overnight. At this writing, the National Weather Service projects an ADDITIONAL 8 inches of snow possible for tonight and another couple inches possible on Friday. Then, rain or snow showers are expected to follow into Saturday, which could freeze as temperatures drop, creating icy and black-ice conditions on roadways.

We do expect colder temperatures on Friday.

Please continue to stay off the roads if at all possible. You may want to check on the welfare of vulnerable neighbors. Be safe!

When will my street get plowed?

    Update Fri., Feb. 22, 10 a.m.

City personnel and our contractors worked through the night — and continue to work today — to ensure that major roadways and intersections in Sedona remain passable as snow continues to fall. Major / emergency routes are the first public safety priority. We will begin clearing neighborhood streets when snowfall tapers off and we can be assured that SRs 89A and 179 will stay in safe condition. We anticipate beginning work in neighborhoods after midday today (Friday).

Report hazards such as downed trees and branches to the non-emergency phone at SPD Dispatch at 928-282-3100. Check ADOT’s http://www.az511.gov site for current road conditions. At last report, I-17 NB remained closed at the SR179 exit, and SR89A through Oak Creek Canyon remained closed. There are additional closures throughout Arizona’s high country statewide.

A note on neighborhood street clearing. Please note that when plows clear neighborhood streets following a significant snowfall, it is unavoidable that snow will be pushed across driveway entrances. If you are in a position to assist a neighbor who may need help clearing snow from their driveway entrance, please do so.

Sedona received 8 inches of snow as of 5 p.m. Thursday according to the National Weather Service, with additional accumulations occurring overnight and this morning. Rain or snow showers are expected to follow into Saturday, which could freeze as temperatures drop, creating icy and black-ice conditions on roadways.

Please continue to stay off the roads if at all possible. This allows our crews to clear the roads more efficiently and safely. This storm is not yet over — stay safe!

When will my street get plowed?

    UPDATED Fri., Feb. 22, 12:02 p.m..

    NEW at 12:02 p.m.

At this point it appears that highway through lanes are in good shape. Our plows will now focus on clearing the center turn lane, and the side street intersections for approximately 100 feet from the highway into Sedona side streets. Then signalized arterials will be plowed. Given the amount of work needed for this, our estimate for plowing minor residential streets is Saturday.

Major / emergency routes are the first public safety priority. We will begin clearing neighborhood streets when snowfall tapers off and we can be assured that SRs 89A and 179 will stay in safe condition. We anticipate beginning work in neighborhoods on Saturday.

Report hazards such as downed trees and branches to the non-emergency phone at SPD Dispatch at 928-282-3100. Check ADOT’s http://www.az511.gov site for current road conditions. NEW ADOT reports I-17 NB has reopened at the SR179 exit, although SR89A through Oak Creek Canyon remained closed.

Other closures remain throughout Arizona’s high country statewide, especially along the Mogollon Rim, which appears to be getting even more precipitation.

A note on neighborhood street clearing.
