Sedona Slide Fire Public Meeting

slide fire mapSedona AZ (May 23, 2014) – A community meeting will be held at the Sedona Red Rock High School Performing Arts Center, SR 89A, west Sedona at 4:00 p.m. today.

The Slide Fire, reported just before 4:00 p.m. May 20, 2014, is burning in Oak Creek Canyon just north of Slide Rock State Park.

Closures include AZ SR Highway 89A from Sedona to Fort Tuthill in Flagstaff, and Forest Road 535 off SR Highway 89A.

Power has been shut off by APS from Slide Rock, north through the canyon.

An approximate 2 to 3-mile stretch of area from Slide Rock State Park north toward the Sterling Springs Hatchery has been evacuated as well as the East Pocket Forest Service Lookout Tower.

Evacuees are being relocated to Sinagua Middle School in Flagstaff, Arizona.

    Special Meeting to Discuss Critical Wildland Fire Danger in Yavapai County – On Saturday, May 24, 2014, from 10 AM to 12 PM, residents of Yavapai County are invited to a very important informational meeting with your public safety experts to discuss wildland fire concerns and preparation.

    The event will take place at the Central Yavapai Regional Training Center (CYRTA), 9601 E. Valley Rd., Prescott Valley, AZ. There will be plenty of time for questions and opportunities to meet with agency representatives. Consider this time well spent.

    Agencies involved and topics covered are as follows:

    Central Yavapai Fire District / Chino Valley Fire District: Defensible Space and Firewise.

    Prescott Fire Department: Ready-Set-Go.

    Prescott National Forest Service: Fire Outlook for this Season – What are the available resources.

    Yavapai County Emergency Management: Firewise and its importance to property owners – Incident Overlay graphic will highlight why Firewise and Defensible Space is so critical – see http://www.regionalinfo-alert.org/

    Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office: Evacuation Procedures/ Expectations/
    Emergency Notification System (ENS) – “Code Red” (sign-up for the ENS will be available at the meeting – see http://www.ycsoaz.gov/community/emergency-preparedness/ens/

    Arizona State Forestry – Issues related to State Land Use/ Rules/ Fire Risk/ Handouts Provided.

    Some of the agencies will have displays on hand including special vehicles
    and equipment for viewing.

  2. Slide Fire PUBLIC MEETING Today – May 23, 2014 – at 4:00 PM at Sedona Red Rock High School Performing Arts Center.

    The City of Sedona, Sedona Fire District, and the US Forest Service will host a public meeting today, May 23, 2014, at the Sedona Red Rock High School Performing Arts Center at 995 Upper Red Rock Loop Road. Representatives from the Type 1 Incident Management Team assigned to the Slide Fire, the SFD, and the City will provide information on the status of the Slide Fire, road closures, air quality, and current fire restrictions. The meeting will conclude with a question and answer session.
