Sedona Seeks Four Arts and Culture Commission Members

Sedona AZ (June 30, 2011)-The City of Sedona is now accepting applications for four positions on its Arts and Culture Commission. The deadline to return applications for the Commission positions has been extended to Tuesday, September 6, 2011, by 5:00 p.m.

The mission of the Arts and Culture Commission is to be the catalyst for creating excellence in arts and culture, thus contributing to a vital economy and the highest quality of life for all within the City of Sedona.

The Arts and Culture Commission’s expectations are to contribute to the implementation of the Community Plan and its “Arts and Culture Vision” and to protect, enhance, serve, and advocate excellence in the arts on behalf of the citizens of Sedona. The Commission is to set priorities for and plan development of arts and culture activities within Sedona, and in conjunction with other appropriate agencies in the greater Sedona-Verde Valley area for the benefit of its citizens, raise the level of awareness and involvement of all citizens in the preservation, expansion and enjoyment of culture and the arts within the City.

The Arts and Culture Commission has a role advocating on behalf of the preservation and enhancement of Sedona’s natural beauty, its cultural and artistic heritage and to encourage the growth of the arts in all facets of the public and private sectors. The Commission acts as an advocate and a resource for arts and cultural opportunities on behalf of residents, businesses, and visitors of Sedona. It recommends policy to the Sedona City Council on arts and cultural issues.

The Arts and Culture Commission may have two members who are not residents of the City of Sedona, but only if they have a direct connection to the City corporation limits, including but not limited to situations such as being an employee within the City limits, or owning a business within the City limits. Appointments will be made by the Sedona City Council with three individuals chosen to replace resignations with terms of service to be from time of appointment until January 2012. One individual chosen will replace a resignation and the term of service will be from time of appointment until January 2013.

The Arts and Culture Commission members will be eligible to reapply for additional terms upon expiration of terms served. Members serve without pay. Ethnic and cultural diversity on the Arts and Culture Commission is encouraged.
