Sedona Arizona SR 89A Construction Update

Sedona AZ (July 4, 2012) – Repaving of Arizona State Route 89A in Sedona from Arroyo Piñon Drive to just west of State Route 179 will begin Sunday evening, July 8, 2012 according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Paving will continue until the beginning of August and will require overnight lane restrictions from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m, daily from Sunday evening through Friday morning, each week.

Crews will also be paving a number of side streets off State Route 89A including Mountain Shadows, Northview, and Posse Ground. This work will require lane closures and turning restrictions between 6:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily from Monday evening through Friday morning next week.

Additionally, crews will be completing installation of electrical foundations for the roadway lighting fixtures along SR 89A during daytime hours. This work will require intermittent single lane restrictions throughout the work zone between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

The work is part of the $4.3 million roadway and safety improvement project that began in late February 2012. The project includes paving of more than three miles of SR 89A between Arroyo Piñon Drive to just west of State Route 179, a new traffic signal at Andante Drive, and roadway lighting from Dry Creek Road to Airport Drive.

Installation of the roadway lighting fixtures will begin after paving is completed. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of August 2012.

  2. The Arizona Department of Transportation will continue overnight work on a paving project on Interstate 17 between Middle Verde Road in Camp Verde and State Route 179 (Sedona turnoff) next week.

    Overnight work hours will be from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. from Sunday, July 8 through Friday, July 13 at 8 a.m.

    The following restrictions and closures will be in place next week:

    Sunday, July 8 through Friday, July 13 northbound I-17 will have alternating lane restrictions during work hours as crews perform guardrail work.

    Monday, July 9 southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane and the southbound McGuireville rest area will be closed due to paving.

    Wednesday, July 11 and Thursday, July 12 southbound I-17 beginning at the SR 179 exit will have alternating lane restrictions due to paving.

    Delays of up to 15 minutes are expected and drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time to reach their destinations.

    The $4.2 million project will include the removal of a layer of the existing pavement, repaving the roadway, guardrail replacement and bridge repair. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.

    The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

    The final work to repave a six-mile segment of northbound Interstate 17 just north of State Route 179 (Sedona turnoff) will require lane restrictions between 6 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

    The $5 million pavement improvement project began last year and will be completed this week after crews complete the final lane striping and install reflective pavement markers. Crews previously completed repaving the roadway from the Stoneman Lake traffic interchange to the Coconino County line (mileposts 206-212).

    The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph through the work zone. Motorists are advised to pay close attention to signage and observe posted speed limits which will be reduced through the work zone.

    The Arizona Department of Transportation is continuing construction of the safety improvement project to repave State Route 89A in Sedona from Arroyo Piñon Drive to just west of State Route 179, install roadway lighting, and add a new traffic signal at Andante Drive.

    The repaving work on this project is currently underway and will continue until the beginning of August. This work will require lane restrictions from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday of each week.

    Paving of the north and south legs of the new Andante Road traffic signal will take place between 6:30 p.m. and 6 a.m Wednesday night. This work will require traffic and turn restrictions during work hours.

    Crews will also be paving a number of side streets off SR 89A including Mountain Shadows, Northview and Posse Ground. This work will require lane closures and turn restrictions between 6:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily through Friday morning this week.

  6. Minor Construction Work on North SR 89A and Arroyo Roble Drive Intersection –

    Minor construction work on North SR 89A/Arroyo Roble Drive intersection is scheduled for July 17 through July 20, 2012, weather and work conditions permitting.

    No lane closures are expected but a lane shift is anticipated near the work area.

    Tiffany Construction is performing the work which consists of utility (pressure sewer line) potholing in or near the northbound lane of North SR 89A and Arroyo Roble Drive.
