Sedona Park Rangers Need Volunteers

Sedona AZ–In 2007, the City of Sedona created the first all-volunteer municipal park ranger program that not only serves a city park system but also provides visitor services outside the parks and supports community events. Since then, the Sedona Volunteer Park Rangers have provided nearly 9,000 hours of public service. Wearing the familiar tan and green uniform with western style hat; rangers can be seen daily on the streets in Uptown Sedona answering visitor’s questions, having their picture taken and providing a first response to emergencies.

In addition to Uptown duties, rangers patrol the city’s parks and support the Department of Parks and Recreation programs. In 2010, rangers also provided uniformed assistance at 18 major community and park events, provided first aid services to visitors, resolved conflicts, picked up litter and worked with public works to power wash the Uptown sidewalks.

Currently there are only eight rangers working 7-days a week so they are looking for new volunteers. Applicants must be 18 years or older (no upper age limit), enjoy talking with people and be willing to work outdoors and take on new challenges.

The City of Sedona provides uniforms and training at no cost to the volunteer but requires a minimum time commitment. Informational packets and applications are available at the Department of Parks and Recreation office located at the City Hall complex, 102 Roadrunner Drive, Sedona or you may contact the program manager Bob Huggins with specific questions via email at ra_huggins@esedona.net.
