Sedona AZ (October 7, 2013) – The competitive design process for a new outdoor performance venue at the Barbara Antonsen Memorial Park at Posse Grounds Park is actively seeking a new design team. The new venue will replace the pavilion dome that collapsed during construction in August 2012.

The two-stage design competition will take place between October 2013 and April 2014. To comply with state law, the City will advertise a Notice of Competitive Design Solicitation for 30 days beginning on October 4, 2013, with a submission deadline for Stage 1 submittals on November 5, 2013. Interested persons can review a copy of the detailed Notice of Competitive Design Solicitation at http://www.SedonaAZ.gov under Business/Doing Business/Bids & RFPs.

Stage One of the competitive design process requests Statements of Qualification (SOQ), Portfolios of Accomplishment and Project Understand and Approach Statements to demonstrate a Team’s vision and design approach, as well as the capability and experience of the Team.

The three most qualified teams will be selected to advance to Stage Two of the design concept competition:  Stage 2 of the competitive design process requires the three design teams to develop design concepts. A key design expectation is that the overall design be in harmony with the existing natural and built environment and contribute rather than detract from the remainder of the Posse Grounds Park, the surrounding neighborhoods and the overall physical environment of the City.

A seven member Design Competition Jury will be established to review and judge the submissions at both stages. The Design Competition Jury will be comprised of one City Council member, the City Manager, Public Works Director, Community & Economic Development Director, Parks and Recreation Manager, one representative of the Friends of Posse Grounds Park and one neighborhood representative selected by the surrounding neighbors.

Per City Council direction, Stage Two of the design competition process will include an opportunity for the public to review and vote on the three design concepts. Public review and voting is anticipated to occur in person at public displays in the Community & Economic Development/Public Works lobby and the Sedona Public Library and on-line through a dedicated web page on the City’s web site.

For more information on the Competitive Design Process, contact Kevin Snyder, AICP, Community and Economic Development Director, 928-203-5075 , ksnyder@SedonaAZ.gov.

Excuse me City of Sedona – perhaps someone made a clerical error, or heavens’ forbid a mathematical mistake, but there are far more residents surrounding Posse Grounds than city staff and councilor together!

They keep topping themselves. This is incredible. What a “Jury”!

  3. Pam says:

The final decision will never be made without Jennifer Wesselhouf’s approval so what difference does it make anyway?
