Sedona Must Close Airport and Build Sustainable Economy

Sedona Airport mesa

Sedona AZ (April 1, 2016) – The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:

The Sedona airport needs to be SHUT DOWN. There are too many planes and helicopters flying around the Sedona red rock country. The planes and helicopters are noisy, a complete eyesore and are mucking up our beautiful Sedona scenery. There are so many helicopters flying about filled with rich, arrogant, fat tourists, it feels like we’re in Vietnam.

This has GOT TO STOP NOW!

Instead of whisking around decadent tourists and wasting gasoline and helicopter use, let’s begin to BUILD a local green, sustainable economy based on getting our residents OFF THE GRID energy wise by installing solar photo voltaic panels on every household in Sedona. Let’s BUILD a local organic food economy that is not dependent on price gouging and unhealthy corporate food outlets. Locally run greenhouses can provide ALL of Sedona’s food needs if it is planned intelligently. If we plant fruit and nut trees throughout town, we can produce a free foraging economy to our residents for generations to come.

cars car road rallyFinally, it’s time to END all car and truck use in the town of Sedona. We need (to) REMOVE the cars and trucks that are currently clogging up main street by building large parking lots at each end of town and a 4-5 mile walkway with bike paths, water fountains, flower beds and small electric vehicle and frequent electric transit routes. Store stocking can be done with parallel street access in the early mornings from Midnight to 6:00 a.m.

We can turn our local tourist industry into something we can all be proud of by protecting our local environment and enhancing our experience here devoid of all the chaos, intrusion, madness and pollution that currently exists due to the internal combustion engine.

It’s time to EVOLVE into the 21st century.

  1. Let me guess Steve… You’ve lived in Sedona less than 18 months and now you want to close the airport… Typical! Now that you’re here shut the gate!! Typical attitude of the Sedona hubris…

  2. Manije Irani says:

Yikes. Angry much? A lot of what you say makes sense but it’s all voided by your vicious tone. You catch more flies with honey. Good luck. I hope I never meet you.

  3. Get a Grip says:

The airport was there before Sedona was ever “discovered.”

What you are asking for in two words “NATIONAL MONUMENT” designation. We’ve already gone the rounds on that one so stick your head back in the sand or wherever else might be more appropriate.

  4. Oh Palease! says:

@Manije – not angry… Just sick of the “holier than thou” attitudes so prevalent in this silly little town! There is no compassion here! It’s a mixture of retired people with over-self importance and the spiritually unwell, who came here to get better (btw – it didn’t help). …and it’s a constant clash of crystals vs hubris!!!

    Hubris… Look it up!

“There are so many helicopters flying about filled with rich, arrogant, fat tourists!

    Steve, your comment,
“There are so many helicopters flying about filled with rich, arrogant, fat tourists, it feels like were in Vietnam”
Really?, and no one call you on this ?

Steve this is really a offensive statement, and really undermines your other comments
And seems pretty judgmental, rich, arrogant, fat tourists is just not true or nice.

Just a few reasons you ideas are self centered and will not work.

Steve 89a and 179 are state Hwys. Not under city control

The airport is under FAA control.

Zoning can not be changed under state law if it lowers the land value

Telling venders when they can use the roads in not in the city or customer power.

Your comment , Organic food economy that is not dependent on price gouging and unhealthy corporate food outlets, is not for everyone but go for it.

A 4 or 5 mile walk may work for some people but most people can not and will not walk that far average age in Sedona 60+

Steve, your idea of utopia sounds great, but it is not for everyone .

Steve how would Sedona resident get there meat , cows roaming on the hillsides? I know you are a vegetarian…

Steve find some rich non fat ,member think “Cult” buy some land and build you Utopia, the people that want that life still can join you.

Spot on Steve , Good to know there are actually other people here that can appreciate an economy based on sustainability and respect for the environment , let alone civility …Oh and Quietude . We came here in 73′ OK ,and actually remember hiking up Schnebly Hill for solitude and the peacefull escape from busy-ness We took over a business Up Town , just when dear ADOT had been grading 89A from one end to the other. constant NOISE , DUST and unbelievable disruptive detours . Oh The GOD ADOT had most all frozen in apathy and NON-ACTION . So WE The Living paid a little visit to Governor Bruce Babbitt our past Secretary of The Interior and got help to GUIDE ADOT in a more human direction . We got 89A paved just ahead of the July monsoon , actually a week ahead , VERY LUCKY and much help from The Governor. We GOT IT DONE as a COMMUNITY of Nature Lovers , not the self serving asleep . This all said , just like Bernie Sanders is saying , TAKE BACK our town from the Fat Cats , Sleeping & mostly Selfish . In doing so respect the Environment OH and The Peace and Respectful that wish to hear the Raven’s Song , Humming Bird’s wings and BREATH CLEANER AIR . We might even coin a phrase ” The Real Carbon Foot Print …Is The Peddle on The RIGHT ” Sedona has turned into a noisey , aggressive and abusive experience on 89A , in the AIR and OFF ROAD Disrespectful FUN PARK . It’s time to Take back OUR TOWN . Thank You Steve , let’s CIRCLE The Wagons and clear the AIR OF NOISE , DIRT & DISREGARD . Namaste , Robert Brazy 4 / 4
