Drummer Wing is asking fellow musicians to voice opinions about the Sedona sound ordinance now under review by the City

Sedona AZ (July 15, 2013)In a Facebook post to the SedonaEye.com editor, Wing, drummer for the Sedona band Amitabha writes the following:

We need at least thirty musicians on July 17 for an important Arts community meeting.

On July 17, 2013, at the Sedona Public Library in west Sedona, there is a most important meeting concerning the “Noise Ordinance” that offers an opportunity for Musicians, Bar and Venue owners, City Officials and Complaining Residents to meet and come up with agreements that will serve all involved. This meeting is specifically for the sound ordinance issues and should not to be confused with the meeting on Thursday, July 18, 2013, for the Art and Music community and Sedona City Council.

We need at least 30 Musicians to show up, it is VERY IMPORTANT!! Agreements could be made and you want your voice heard too. Be a part of this change! This issue has come up many times through the years and we have a chance to change that.

WHAT: Meeting with the City of Sedona and key stakeholders to discuss ideas and options to address noise and other issues associated with bar and restaurant businesses in certain parts of the City.

WHEN: July 17, 2013, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Sedona Public Library, Si Birch Community Room, 3250 White Bear Rd., Sedona, AZ 86336.

WHY: The City of Sedona is seeking to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to identify and implement proactive and positive solutions to address noise and other issues associated with bar and restaurant businesses in certain parts of the City. The City has been responding to complaints through code enforcement and police action, but believes that there are more productive approaches and solutions.

HOW: The City of Sedona is seeking to bring together bar owners and managers, musicians, property owners and residents living nearby the businesses to: 1) jointly identify all issues and concerns: 2) problem-solve together on these issues and concerns; and 3) begin to build long-term relationships and effective communication lines between the City and the stakeholders and between stakeholders.

This event is listed on the SedonaEye.com Calendar.

Just for clarification. There are two meetings. The first is July 17th referenced above and will discuss the sound ordinance. The second meeting for the Arts Community is July 18th as described in the Sedona City Council post and will involve all the Arts who care to attend. Hope to see you at both meetins.

  7. we want to say this about mtg & we looked this up again to make sure Wing was on here.

sedona like we remember when first came here is gone. great & good musicians & performers are few & far between. lots getting bad raps because fly by nighters don’t show up for booked jobs –a musician that shows up when promised is gold. Bars & food places cheat musicians left & right & feel no guilt. musician should make min $350 a show for 2 hrs, the avg going rate in most other areas but sedona employers like to cheat.

there’s no sound issues with pros. There’s no prob with no shows with pros. there’s a few top tier musicians & the rest undercut them. look at the pros at studio live. we will miss you suzie shoes.

want to regulate? dont regulate musicians. in sedona they have no control with corrupt employers. demand that Sedona employers pay a min fee & have terms for music & base rates. Go after the thieves that cheat musicians out of money at end of shows. Give musicians teeth to enforce deals.

Wing. Peace be with you brother. Blessings. Namaste.

I for one can’t remember the piano player in my favorite Italian place in Tampa but I go there because he’s there. Food is average but the atmosphere is reliable when I’m in town meeting friends. Same at Reds when I stay in town. Midweek is good at Reds that has the cheapest and best wine selection and a good bartender and musician that plays to the crowd that he likes and likes him. Again don’t know his name but I go there because he does a reliable show. Noise isn’t a problem unless you have outdoor venues. Sedona has resorts. I’d go there but not to an outdoor venue. Too blazing saddles hot!

  9. jay bean let’s meet for drinks i like your style
