Sedona Museum Hosts Traveling AWHT Exhibit

Sedona museum showcases Arizona women

Sedona AZ (June 5, 2012) – The Sedona Heritage Museum announces its newest exhibit Arizona Women’s Heritage Trail, a traveling exhibit. The exhibit will be displayed from June through Labor Day 2012 and is designated a Legacy program by the Arizona State Centennial Commission.

Designed by Arizona Women’s Heritage Trail scholars and the museum board, the Arizona Centennial exhibit is a celebration of women from Arizona’s past who made significant contributions and left lasting marks on the state and its people. While the Trail honors over one hundred women, eighteen are highlighted in the Sedona Heritage Museum exhibit including four women from the greater Sedona area.

Launched in 2005, the AWHT is a coalition effort of Arizona historical agencies and women’s organizations. Through outreach, the coalition worked to actively involve communities, universities, and schools while providing an opportunity to represent Arizona’s multicultural heritage. The women and sites on the Trail are related to the over-arching themes of women and work, women and education, women building communities, women in politics and government, women in the arts and architecture, and women in historic preservation. The women and sites are from across the state and represent five different regions.

Along with the AWHT traveling exhibit, the Sedona Heritage Museum’s exhibit celebrating the Arizona Centennial will continue to be on display throughout 2012.

The Sedona Heritage Museum is located at 735 Jordan Road, Jordan Historical Park, uptown Sedona Arizona and is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For more information, contact the museum at 928-282-7038.
