Sedona AZ (January 11, 2013) – It’s not every day that a local WOOF gets to help his Paws Up pals, and SedonaEye.com’s Harley McGuire, Star Pet Columnist, knows it! So when the Humane Society of Sedona sent him a note outlining its 2014 fundraiser, Harley put paws to pen for his pals.

Harley McGuire writes, “Please open your hearts and wallets. With Birgitte Skielvig’s passing, this is an opportunity for the community to honor B’s memory and further her Humane Society of Sedona dreams. Animal welfare is a community responsibility. Let’s support those who show up daily at HSS to walk the talk. Contribute what you can to raise funds for a low cost Sedona neuter and spay clinic, and give a Paws Up Shout Out to the 2014 calendar fundraiser team.”

Harley McGuire knows the first step in preventing unwanted litters, pet homelessness, and reducing the euthanasia rate is to have pets spayed and neutered. Also recognizing this need were Harley Todd and the Simmers’, Isabel and David, the team who developed and produced the 2014 WOOFnPURR Calendar for the Humane Society of Sedona low cost spay and neuter clinic fundraiser.

If you think your pet has what it takes to be a calendar pin-up, go to www.WOOFnPURR.org and sign up. There are several ways to participate and raise money for the HSS spay and neuter program. Discover your options on the website.

The WOOFnPURR calendar is actually two calendars – one for dogs and one for cats. Thirteen submissions (cover plus 12 months) will be accepted for each calendar. Every pet registered, for one of the thirteen spots in each calendar, will receive a professional photo session. The best photo of your pet will be selected by the WOOFnPURR committee and posted on the website where the voting begins!

Featured on the cover of each calendar will be The Dog and The Cat that raised the most money through “votes.” Will it be yours?

“We know how people love to show off their pets and we are leveraging that love to generate much needed funds for the WOOFnPURR project to support the Humane Society’s low cost or no cost spay and neuter clinics. Ideally, we would like to raise enough money for as many no-cost clinics as possible. By offering even more low cost or no cost spay and neuter clinics, we hope to help even more pet guardians/custodians in Northern Arizona who want to give their pets the best care but simply cannot afford these services,” explained Harley Todd.

Proceeds from the HSS fundraiser will directly support newly arrived shelter pets. It is mandatory at HSS that all animals be altered prior to adoption. Ninety-five percent of the animals that come into the shelter have not been spayed or neutered, further validating the need for this service.

The 2014 WOOFnPURR calendar project was announced at HSS’s 12 Strays of Christmas December holiday brunch. Within minutes of that announcement, all thirteen positions for the WOOF calendar and five of the PURR calendar spots sold. Eight positions were available at press time. The tax-deductible cost of $250 guarantees your pet will be in the calendar (on the cover or month depending upon amount of money raised).

There are two other ways to participate:  For a $25 donation, a person can get their pet a spot within the calendar. For a $50 donation, a pet’s photo will be placed on a special memorial page honoring those whose pets have passed. Complete details and registration information is found on the website.

“The goal is to have 100% of the funds raised from the calendar go toward the HSS spay and neuter clinic – which will happen if a donor can be found to sponsor the actual printing of the calendar,” explained Humane Society of Sedona Development Coordinator, Betsy Klein.

The WOOFnPURR website, design and photography services have all been donated. Contact Betsy Klein at 928-282-4679 with sponsorship or fundraising questions. Tell them Harley McGuire sent you to help!
