Sedona Heritage Museum Storage Issues

Sedona Heritage Museum

Sedona AZ (June 2, 2011)-The Sedona Heritage Museum in Sedona, Arizona recently installed a hi-density movable storage system in their Collections Room. This new system has shelving units that can be moved with the simple turn of a wheel. The new system maximizes a section of the Sedona museum’s small Collections storage room, increasing storage capacity by almost fifty per cent (50%).

This new movable storage system defers for years any need for costly outside storage space that might otherwise divert funds from the Museum’s mission-based programs.

“The good news is our collection of artifacts and archives representing Sedona’s heritage is growing, but the bad news was we were out of space to properly house those historical items,” said Museum Collections Committee Chair Janeen Trevillyan. “This new system will allow the Museum’s Collection to grow and to remain in the on-site room that was recently upgraded to provide environmental controls.”

The storage system was purchased via a variety of generous funding sources including grants from the Sedona Community Foundation and the Arizona Historical Society. The Museum received gifts for the project from Jay and Sheri Young, Inge Hilberg, Jeff and Tish Gobble, and the Sedona Questers. The Sedona Heritage Museum Board also dedicated a portion of savings as matching funds to complete the project.

The Sedona Heritage Museum is operated by the Sedona Historical Society, uptown in Jordan Historical Park at 735 Jordan Road, Sedona, Arizona. The Sedona museum is open daily 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and a daily listing of its changing exhibits and guest lecturers can be found on the SedonaEye.com Calendar of Events.

Museum Receives Honor for Achievement in Historic and Cultural Preservation! The Sedona Historical Society and its Sedona Heritage Museum were honored on June 3, 2011 by the National Park Service for their excellence and achievement in historic and cultural preservation.
Tuzigoot National Monument Park Superintendent Kathy M. Davis made the presentation during the grand re-opening ceremony for Tuzigoot Museum at the Monument. The award was given with special recognition to long-time Society member and Historian, Mr. Sherman Loy and with special mention of Jim Eaton, Donna Pratt and Mary Smith Wyatt, all four of whom have worked for more than 20 years toward furthering the Society’s mission of research, preservation and education about local history.
The Society, Museum and many of its volunteers have received numerous awards in the past, but this award was especially meaningful because it was accepted in honor of Mr. Loy who recently passed away. Thank you. Janeen Trevillyan Sedona AZ
