Sedona Heritage Museum Announces New Collection

Sedona Heritage Museum

Sedona AZ (March 7, 2011) – The Sedona Heritage Museum continues to preserve and make accessible portions of its collection focusing on local history. Most recently a portion of the Elizabeth Rigby photo collection was digitized and cataloged allowing for easy research and access.

Elizabeth Rigby was a Sedona Arizona resident from the late 1940s until her death in 1994. She was a prolific photographer, free-lance writer, and eventually a reporter for the local newspaper. Her photos are a window into Sedona’s modern history. She recorded historically significant people, places and events in town.

A couple of the real gems found during the recent project were photos of Max Ernst’s Sedona studio, the train brought in to the Sedona film set for John Wayne’s 1946 filming of “Angel & the Badman”, and of Zoe Mozert, American’s most famous female pin-up artist who made Sedona home. These photos and 2500 others from her collection of almost 14,000 are now entered into the Sedona Heritage Museum’s electronic catalogue.

“We plan to go for additional grants so we can continue to sort, digitize, properly store, and catalog for public access the balance of Elizabeth’s astonishing photo collection,” said Janeen Trevillyan, the Museum’s Collections Committee Chair.

This project was funded in part by a grant from the Arizona Historical Records Advisory Board. Researchers can view the results of this first phase of an on-going project to digitize and catalog the entire Collection during regular Museum business hours daily from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  For more information about the E. Rigby Collection or to see these images, contact the Sedona Museum, 735 Jordan Road in uptown Sedona or call 928-282-7038.
