Sedona Friday Afternoon Muse

Sedona AZ (November 14, 2008) – So it seems Sedona.biz editor Carl Jackson is a tad upset over alleged efforts by the city’s media-of-record to prevent the city from sharing its weekly staff or council member written columns with him for his Web site.

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!

For me it’s simply business-as-usual; pangs suffered by one media outlet when another begins to infringe on its territory.

I’ve never asked for such columns because, if I wanted one, I would go right to the source and ask them to write one specifically for our publication. I don’t need to share anything unless it is with Mr. Jackson, who has been gracious to allow us to communicate with our community through his media outlet.

I could easily sympathize with the media-of-record because of limitations pulp confronts in the face of an Internet leviathan. The thing is to remain confident and secure in one’s ability to out-news the competition, an awesome advantage cyber has over paper.

But these are such mundane issues when businesses are closing down, homes are being foreclosed, people are losing their jobs and livelihoods every week in Sedona.

Then, there is the possibility of a bankrupt city; a city that could end up losing vital services, a city of millionaires living in pauper-ville.

Still, we can comfort ourselves knowing that at least we are not living in a burnt village somewhere in Afghanistan or Iraq having to worry every day from which direction sudden and very painful death is coming.

We should be thankful there are still a few bars left open to share a drink with the thinning crowds and hear toned-down rock ‘n’ roll.

So Mr. Jackson shouldn’t worry about a thrashing dinosaur sinking into a tar pit of mediocrity, insignificance and obscurity. Instead, he should continue to scoop everyone on the block and provide late-breaking news on a daily basis.

But watch out Mr. Jackson, we at the SVVT Web site are hot on your tail and it won’t be long before you have some real competition in this town – friendly, of course – and in support of all that you do.
