Sedona Firefighters Help in Haiti

Sedona AZ April 29 2010–On April 30th two local firefighters will be heading to Haiti for continued earthquake relief efforts. Captain PJ Lingley and Firefighter Jamey Kreun, both professional Firefighters and Paramedics from the Sedona-Verde Valley area, are taking part in this humanitarian effort. These two, along with about 30 others from all areas of the medical field, will spend eight days working in MASH style hospital tents assisting earthquake victims displaced by the disaster. Lingley and Kreun will be part of the Northern Arizona Medical Volunteer Corps and be working in cooperation with Project Medishare (www.projectmedishare.org) out of the University of Miami.
Thanks in part to training gained from being professional firefighters, as well as experience from working in the field as paramedics, they will be able to offer the much needed skills and experience that will prove to be a great asset in assisting the misplaced and unfortunate people who are suffering from the devastating effects of the earthquake. This tragedy has already claimed the lives of over a quarter of a million people, and many more are still suffering and at risk.
The voluntary participation in this effort is requiring a personal sacrifice from all individuals involved. Both Lingley and Kruen are utilizing personal funds and Vacation time to assist the citizens of Haiti. Additionally, the two are required to purchase their own round-trip airfare from Phoenix to Miami where they will meet up with the rest of the group to gather materials and supplies for their trip. Although this trip will require personal sacrifices and time away from family and friends for all members involved, they hope that their efforts will prove beneficial to those needing assistance still suffering in Haiti.
During this effort the two expect to see and experience firsthand the consequences and losses suffered by the people of Haiti, along with the inherent exposure to the many diseases that are killing people in the aftermath of this tragedy. Having taken part in this voluntary mission, Lingley and Kruen expect to come home with added experience and a new set of skills that will help to improve the quality of service they, along with others in thier profession are able to provide.
