Sedona Fire Responds to 39 Weekend Calls

SEDONA AZ (March 29 2011) – Sedona Fire District (SFD) emergency crews responded to thirty nine calls for service beginning March 25 through March 27, 2011. Shortly after 2:00 PM on Friday, SFD emergency crews responded to an injured hiker on the Templeton Trail near Cathedral Rock off of State Route 179 and treated the 43 year old male by carrying him out using a Stokes basket and the Big Wheel. The hiker was transported to Sedona Medical Center by a SFD ambulance.

At 8:10 a.m. SFD emergency crews responded to a freezer fire at the Sedona Safeway Store. After an investigation, it was determined that ice built up on electrical components in the freezer and caused the fire. Fire damage to the freezer was minimal.

Approximately four hours later, SFD emergency crews responded to a second injured hiker call. SFD crews located the injured hiker, a 50 year old male with an ankle injury resulting from a fall, on the Bell Rock Pathway Trail in the Village of Oak Creek. The hiker was carried out using a Stokes basket and the Big Wheel and transported to Verde Valley Medical Center by a SFD ambulance.

Just after 11:00 p.m., SFD emergency crews responded to a kitchen fire in the apartment complex at the 200 block of East Cortez Drive in the Village of Oak Creek. A resident of the community extinguished the fire after noticing smoke coming from another apartment. Its occupant, at home at the time, was unaware of the fire. The SFD investigation found that a combustible dish drainer was left too close to a lit stove burner. The fire loss is estimated at $2000.
