Sedona Fire District Proposes 9/11 Memorial

Sedona Fire EMS ArizonaSedona AZ (September 24, 2015) – In August, the Sedona Fire District took delivery from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey of an artifact from the ruins of the World Trade Center. The piece – a steel girder – is about 5′ long by about 15″ across, and weighs close to 3,000 pounds. SFD is proposing a 9/11 Memorial be built at Fire Station No. 6 in the Chapel area of Sedona to prominently display this artifact in memory of all lives lost on the tragic day of September 11, 2001.

Our Fire Board approved the formation of a citizens’ committee of up to five individuals (to be chaired by Board Member Scott Jablow) to plan, create a timeline, and come up with fundraising opportunities to create the Memorial. The architectural firm that designed Station 6 has created renderings of the proposed Memorial Plaza. Click on the link below to see the renderings.

Our goal is to have the Memorial installed in time to dedicate it on September 11, 2016 – the 15th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

If you are interested in serving on the citizens committee or providing assistance in other ways, please contact SFD Executive Assistant Tricia Greer at tgreer@sedonafire.org or call 928-204-8909 by Tuesday, October 6, 2015.
